Principles Tester - Rail Signalling

Location: Australia
Candidates: UK-based signalling professionals are strongly encouraged to apply

London: 25/06 – 26/06 and 01/07 – 02/07

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Principles Tester to support major rail signalling and commissioning projects in Australia.

This role is ideally suited to a UK signalling testing professional with strong experience in signalling principles testing, verification, commissioning and safety-critical rail infrastructure projects.

The successful candidate will be responsible for undertaking and leading principles testing activities to ensure signalling systems are tested, verified and commissioned safely and in accordance with approved designs, signalling principles, standards and project requirements.

Key Responsibilities

As a Principles Tester, you will be responsible for:

Undertaking signalling principles testing activities during testing, commissioning and possession works.
Reviewing signalling designs, control tables, scheme plans, circuit diagrams, data configurations and associated documentation.
Verifying that signalling systems comply with approved designs, operational requirements and signalling principles.
Preparing and reviewing test specifications, test plans, test logs and testing documentation.
Supporting Tester in Charge (TIC) personnel during commissioning and possession activities.
Identifying, recording and reporting defects, discrepancies, risks and non-conformances.
Liaising with design engineers, project managers, construction teams, testers and client representatives.
Ensuring testing activities are completed in accordance with approved procedures, standards and safety requirements.
Providing technical guidance and support to Functional Testers and Assistant Testers where required.
Ensuring accurate completion and submission of testing records and documentation.
Supporting commissioning activities and the safe handback of signalling assets into operational service.
Contributing to continuous improvement of testing processes and project delivery outcomes.

Skills and Experience

The successful candidate will ideally have:

Significant experience in rail signalling testing and commissioning.
Previous experience as a Principles Tester or senior signalling testing professional.
Strong knowledge of signalling principles, interlockings, train detection systems, signalling controls and trackside equipment.
Experience working on signalling testing activities during possessions, blockades and commissioning programmes.
Ability to read and interpret signalling plans, control tables, scheme plans, wiring diagrams, circuit books and testing documentation.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
Strong understanding of safety-critical rail environments.
UK rail signalling experience, ideally on Network Rail or similar infrastructure projects.
IRSE Principles Tester Licence or equivalent signalling testing competencies highly regarded.
Willingness to relocate to Australia and adapt to Australian rail standards, client requirements and local network rules.

Qualifications and Competencies

Degree in Electrical / Electronics Engineering is essential.
Relevant rail signalling testing qualifications or equivalent industry experience.
IRSE Licence essential.
Australian competency conversion or assessment may be required depending on client and project.
