What this role is all about:
VitalityLife is looking for an exceptional life underwriter to drive the impact and evolution of our High Net Worth underwriting proposition, strengthening our position as a leader in underwriting excellence and innovation. In this high‑profile role, your deep life underwriting expertise will be central to delivering outstanding outcomes as you assess complex HNW cases with absolute precision, ensuring the highest financial and medical standards. You will act as a trusted authority to brokers and advisers, providing decisive guidance that moves major cases forward with confidence. Your influence will extend across the business as you collaborate with reinsurers to secure successful placements, shape bespoke financial underwriting solutions with sales teams, and elevate organisational capability by educating colleagues on the nuances of HNW underwriting. As a senior figure within the function, you will mentor developing underwriters and champion continuous improvement, identifying opportunities to enhance and future‑proof our HNW proposition so that VitalityLife continues to set the benchmark for expertise, credibility and market‑leading delivery.
Key Actions
- Underwrite complex High Net Worth (HNW) cases to the highest financial and medical standards, ensuring accuracy, quality, and excellent client outcomes.
- Partner closely with brokers and advisers to guide large cases smoothly through the underwriting journey, offering clarity, confidence, and expert support.
- Collaborate with reinsurers to secure successful placement of business and maintain strong, credible working relationships.
- Work with sales teams to develop tailored financial underwriting solutions for key clients and unique case requirements.
- Educate and upskill internal sales teams on the HNW underwriting process to ensure consistency, understanding, and strong case management.
- Mentor and support less experienced underwriters, contributing to a high‑performing and collaborative underwriting function.
- Identify opportunities to enhance and evolve the HNW underwriting proposition, helping shape a market‑leading offering.
What do you need to thrive?
- Extensive experience underwriting large or complex HNW cases, with strong financial and medical underwriting knowledge.
- The confidence and credibility to build strong relationships with advisers, brokers, and reinsurers.
- A solutions‑focused mindset with the ability to tackle complex problems and think creatively about risk.
- Strong communication and influencing skills, able to guide stakeholders through challenging decisions or cases.
- Proven ability to mentor others and contribute to a culture of continuous learning and development.
- Comfort working independently and making informed decisions, while also collaborating effectively across teams.
- Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office and the organisational skills required to manage high‑value cases with precision.
