Full job description

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Payroll Administrator to join our growing payroll team. This is a senior technical role suited to someone with extensive payroll bureau experience who enjoys taking ownership of complex payrolls, supporting colleagues, and helping maintain the high standards of service we provide to our clients.

You will play a key role in the day-to-day operation of the payroll department, dealing directly with clients, acting as a technical point of reference within the team, and helping to ensure payrolls are processed accurately, efficiently and on time. You will support less experienced colleagues, share your technical expertise, and contribute to the continued development and improvement of the payroll function.

Key Responsibilities

Processing weekly, fortnightly, four-weekly and monthly payrolls.
Taking ownership of complex payrolls and technical payroll matters.
Setting up starters and processing leavers.
Processing Attachments of Earnings (AOEs), Direct Earnings Attachments (DEAs) and statutory payments.
Administering workplace pensions, including enrolment, re-enrolment and contribution uploads.
Producing payroll reports, payslips, P45s, P60s and other payroll documentation.
Acting as a senior point of contact for payroll queries from clients.
Supporting colleagues with technical payroll queries and assisting with the resolution of complex payroll issues.
Helping onboard and develop new members of the payroll team.
Identifying opportunities to improve payroll processes, systems and efficiencies.
Keeping up to date with payroll legislation and ensuring changes are implemented across the payroll function.

Skills & Experience

At least 4 years' payroll experience, ideally within a payroll bureau.
Excellent knowledge of UK payroll legislation, including PAYE, National Insurance and statutory payments.
Strong understanding of workplace pensions and automatic enrolment.
Experience processing payrolls for multiple employers across different pay frequencies.
Confident dealing with complex payroll queries and legislation.
Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
Strong communication skills with a professional and client-focused approach.
Confident using payroll software and Microsoft Excel.
Able to work independently whilst contributing to a collaborative team environment.
Proactive, dependable and committed to delivering a high-quality payroll service.

Pay, Hours & Benefits

Hours: 37.5 hours per week to be completed between Monday to Friday, 8:45am – 4:45pm (30-minute lunch break)
Hybrid working - once trained, half the time in the office and half working from home
Dress code: Casual
Holiday: 5.6 weeks annual leave, plus an additional day off for your birthday

Pay: £30,000.00-£37,000.00 per year
