Royal Preston Cellular Pathology Department are looking for a suitably qualified Senior Biomedical Scientist to come and join our team, which offers experience in a wide range of histological techniques and specimen dissection.
The Cellular Pathology Team work alongside 14 Consultant Histopathologist, Specialist trainees, and a SAS doctor in the Department of Cellular Pathology within a large and established Pathology Directorate. The Cellular Pathology department has UKAS 15189 accreditation and processes approximately 34,000 surgical samples per year.
In this role, you will take a leading responsibility for supervising the Histology main laboratory, ensuring that workflows are managed efficiently and that the service operates to the highest standards. You will oversee the monitoring of EQA/IQC processes and help maintain full compliance with UKAS 15189:2022, supporting continuous quality improvement across the department.
Strong communication will be essential, as you will work closely with colleagues across the Trust and with external agencies to ensure a responsive and high‑quality service. You will provide expert technical advice on a wide range of Cellular Pathology matters and handle enquiries from both professionals and the public with tact, diplomacy, and professionalism.
As part of your leadership duties, you will undertake appraisals for BMS staff, supporting them in developing meaningful Personal Development Plans. You will also identify training needs within the Cellular Pathology Laboratory team and work collaboratively with the Head BMS to ensure appropriate development opportunities are in place.
