Job Description:
Job Title: Junior AI-Assisted Developer / Prototyping Engineer
Salary: (Dependent on Experience)
Location: Office-based, St Helens (WA9)
Position: Full-Time
About the Role
Are you a junior developer who knows how to leverage modern AI tools to build functional software at pace?
We are looking for a practical, high-velocity Junior AI-Assisted Developer to join our established in-house tech team. In this role, we are language-agnostic—we care about your logic, problem-solving skills, and ability to execute. You won't be expected to write every line of boilerplate code from scratch. Instead, you will use advanced AI code generation tools (such as Claude, Cursor, or Copilot) to rapidly prototype, scaffold, and build out roughly 80% of our internal business software and workflow tools.
You will work closely within a collaborative team environment, passing your high-velocity builds over to our Senior Developers, who will handle the final 20%—overseeing core architecture, optimizing complex backend logic, and ensuring security.
This is a hands-on role suited to natural problem-solvers who want to ship software fast while learning directly from senior mentorship.
The Skillset
While you will heavily utilize AI assistance to accelerate development, you must possess a strong fundamental understanding of programming logic and databases to debug, integrate, and verify outputs:
Language Agnostic / Strong Logic: Open to any language background, but you must thoroughly understand programming fundamentals, data structures, and back-end logic.
JavaScript: Vanilla JS and jQuery for front-end interactivity.
Databases: Strong fundamental knowledge of MySQL (queries, joins, and basic schema design) to handle internal data.
AI Tooling: Hands-on proficiency using LLMs (like Claude) for prompt-driven code generation, context management, and fast troubleshooting.
Bash Scripting: Basic knowledge of Bash for server automation and deployment workflows.
Bootstrap: Good knowledge of Bootstrap for creating clean, responsive internal business layouts is a major plus.
Candidate Profile
AI-Fluent & Efficient: You know how to guide AI systems to generate functional code, manage context windows, and iterate quickly without getting stuck.
Team Player: You thrive in a collaborative team environment, communicate clearly, and maintain excellent Git hygiene so your code can be easily reviewed and refined by the team.
Adaptable & Grounded: Comfortable stepping into existing codebases, adapting to our ways of working, and using the best tools available to solve practical business problems.
Execution-Focused: A pragmatic builder who cares about delivering functional, working business tools over over-engineering.
What We Offer
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a well-established company with a solid pipeline of projects, cutting-edge workflows, and long-term stability. You will get to see your tools used by the company immediately, while enjoying a structured environment where you can grow your skills.
