The Role
As a Second Charge Underwriter, you will play a pivotal role in the analysis, structuring and placement of new applications, overseeing cases from submission through to completion.
You will be responsible for underwriting cases in line with lender criteria, applying sound judgement and detailed analysis to ensure strong, compliant outcomes for both lenders and clients.
Key responsibilities include:
- Structuring, negotiating and analysing loan proposals prior to submission for approval
- Conducting full underwriting analysis of borrower profiles, including credit history, income, affordability and property collateral
- Underwriting based around sound lending decisions and terms, supported by clear rationale and well-documented case notes
- Ensuring all underwriting decisions comply with audit, regulatory and lender requirements
- Applying lending policy accurately within a specialist mortgage environment
- Liaising directly with second charge lenders, building and maintaining strong professional relationships
About You
We are looking for an articulate, hardworking professional with strong analytical and problem-solving skills and a genuine interest in specialist lending.
You will ideally demonstrate:
- A good understanding of mortgages and underwriting within a specialist or second charge lending environment
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to assess risk effectively
- A confident, logical and well-documented decision-making style
- A proactive, “can-do” attitude with the ability to manage a varied caseload
- The ability to communicate clearly and professionally with lenders and internal stakeholders
Experience in second charge underwriting is advantageous, but we will also consider candidates with strong transferable underwriting or specialist lending experience who are keen to develop further.
