Full job description

Job Title: Learning Mentor

Location: Dawn House School, Rainworth, Nottinghamshire
Salary: Actual £22,277.15 - £22,960.67 (£25,063 - £25,832)

Working pattern: Permanent contract, working 35 hours per week; Term Term time plus 1 week during the school closure period (total working weeks 40 weeks per annum).
Start Date: September 2026

Role Overview
We are looking for a compassionate, proactive and enthusiastic Learning Mentor to join our Wellbeing Team at Dawn House School. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference to the lives of children and young people with complex speech, language and communication needs. Through one-to-one mentoring, group interventions and collaborative working, you will play a key role in promoting positive wellbeing, engagement and successful learning outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils to support their emotional wellbeing, confidence and engagement in learning.
Deliver planned one-to-one and group interventions to address individual barriers to learning.
Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, the Wellbeing Team and families to develop and implement effective support strategies.
Support pupils with attendance, punctuality, behaviour, self-esteem and personal development.
Contribute to transition planning for pupils moving between classes, key stages or into further education and employment.
Maintain accurate records, monitor progress and contribute to reports and reviews.
Liaise with parents, carers and external professionals to ensure a coordinated approach to support.

Has experience working with children or young people, particularly those with additional needs or communication difficulties.
Is passionate about supporting young people to overcome barriers and achieve their potential.
Builds positive relationships through empathy, patience and excellent communication skills.
Is calm, resilient and confident when supporting pupils with a range of social, emotional and behavioural needs.
Is committed to safeguarding and promoting child welfare.
