About the Role

Manchester has a strong network of specialist eye care providers and at Chapel Hill Ophthalmology we focus on delivering organised patient centred support throughout the ophthalmology journey.

We are looking for an Ophthalmic Assistant who can support clinicians during outpatient appointments help prepare patients for diagnostic testing and ensure clinical areas remain organised and ready for daily activity.

You will work closely with ophthalmologists nurses optometrists and administrative teams to provide a smooth experience for patients from arrival through assessment and follow up.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Preparation: Welcome patients explain basic appointment processes and help prepare them for examination or diagnostic testing.

Clinical Support: Assist ophthalmologists optometrists and nursing staff with routine clinical activities in accordance with established procedures.

Diagnostic Assistance: Support basic ophthalmic testing and help prepare equipment for visual acuity assessments imaging and other routine investigations.

Patient Flow: Coordinate movement between waiting consultation and diagnostic areas to help clinics run efficiently.

Clinical Records: Ensure patient information observations and test details are recorded accurately in the appropriate systems.

Equipment Preparation: Prepare clean and organise clinical equipment and treatment areas before and after patient appointments.

Infection Control: Follow hygiene infection prevention and clinical safety procedures throughout daily activities.

Patient Communication: Provide clear and professional information to patients and direct clinical questions to the appropriate healthcare professional when required.

What We Are Looking For

Experience: Previous experience in healthcare optical services ophthalmology outpatient care or a patient facing clinical support role is preferred.

Patient Care: A professional compassionate approach with confidence supporting patients of different ages and backgrounds.

Attention to Detail: Able to follow clinical instructions accurately maintain records and support safe working practices.

Communication: Clear written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain routine information in a calm and straightforward manner.

Organisation: Able to manage multiple patient activities maintain organised clinical areas and work effectively during busy clinic periods.

Teamwork: Comfortable working closely with clinicians administrators and other healthcare staff to support efficient patient care.

Digital Skills: Familiarity with electronic patient records appointment systems or healthcare administration software is preferred.

Mindset: You are patient focused dependable and attentive. You remain calm in a busy clinical environment follow procedures carefully and take pride in helping patients receive an organised professional and reassuring experience.

Pay: £2,300.00-£2,700.00 per month
