Senior Brunch Chef (Sole Charge Cook)
Location: Canterbury, Kent
Pay: £15.00 per hour depending on experience. (Flat rate)
Hours: Part-time, 3–4 days per week (Primarily daytime trade, with occasional evening work for special events/private hire).
Are you an experienced chef looking to step away from the gruelling 60-hour weeks, late nights, and split shifts, but still want a role where your culinary skills and autonomy are valued?
We are a busy, independent brunch spot in Canterbury focusing on daytime trade. We are looking for a reliable, highly experienced Senior Brunch Chef to join our team on a permanent part-time basis.
The Role:
This is a dynamic, high-responsibility role with a great balance of solo work and team collaboration. Your week will split across three main areas:
- Weekday Solo Cover: Running the kitchen entirely on your own during the main chef’s days off. You’ll handle prep, cooking, ordering, and ticket management independently.
- Weekend Team Support: Joining our fast-paced kitchen line during our busiest Saturday and Sunday brunch rushes.
- Events & Catering: Helping us deliver high-quality, occasional outdoor catering sessions and local events during peak seasons. This includes occasional evening work for private hire or special pop-up events (advanced notice always given).
What We Are Looking For:
Because this role requires running the kitchen completely alone mid-week, we require a professional with proven commercial kitchen experience. This role is not suitable for students or short-order cooks without sole-charge experience.
- Experience: Minimum 2–3 years in a professional, high-volume kitchen. You must have prior experience running a kitchen or section completely on your own.
- Skills: Exceptional short-order cooking skills (mastery of eggs to order is a must), tight control over food hygiene, and the ability to keep your cool when a surprise weekday rush hits.
- Attitude: Punctual, highly organized, and an adaptable team player on the weekends.
- Logistics: A driving licence and access to a vehicle is highly advantageous for our occasional off-site catering events.
Why Work With Us?
- £15.00/hr Flat Rate: A clean, honest wage paid monthly, with straightforward payroll and fully paid holiday tracking.
- Work-Life Balance: Primarily daytime-only hours so you can reclaim your evenings, with only occasional evening shifts required for pre-planned events.
- Great Perks: Free premium staff meals and proper barista coffee on shift, plus a supportive, organized independent working environment.
To Apply:
If you have the grit to run a kitchen solo and want to reclaim your evenings, we want to hear from you. Please send over your CV and a brief note detailing your sole-charge kitchen experience.
