The role
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Production Shift Supervisor to work in our facility in Newbury. The Shift Supervisor is responsible for leading and coordinating all production and end of day clean down activities to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality manufacturing operations. This includes managing people, processes, performance, and compliance to deliver production targets while maintaining a strong safety-first culture.
This is a hand on role that ensures that teams are motivated, fully supported, and working to company standards, while driving continuous improvement across quality, cost, delivery, safety, and morale.
Main responsibilities:
Leadership & People Management
- Lead, supervise and develop the shift team to achieve production targets.
- Manage staffing activities including breaks, job rotations, and job performance.
- Support training, coaching and onboarding of new employees and multiskilling operators.
- Foster a positive working environment built on communication, respect, and accountability.
Safety, Compliance & Quality
- Ensure all activities comply with Food safety, H&S regulations, policies and SSOW.
- Promote a proactive safety culture; report, investigate and escalate near misses and incidents.
- Ensure product food safety & quality standards and specifications are met.
- Maintain high levels of housekeeping.
Production Control & Process Management
- Coordinate daily production to achieve shift output, efficiency and scrap targets.
- Manage the clean down process and setting up for the following days production.
- Monitor performance KPIs such as downtime, and throughput.
- Ensure machinery and equipment are operated safely and correctly by all personnel.
- Liaise with maintenance to schedule repairs and address breakdowns promptly.
- Ensure accurate completion of production records, reports, and shift handovers.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, efficiency, safety and waste reduction.
- Participate in CI initiatives
- Encourage operators to contribute ideas and drive engagement in improvement activities.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with maintenance, technical, warehouse and planning
- Communicate shift issues and performance updates to management.
- Support new product introductions, trials and process changes as required.
Person specification/Qualifications/Capabilities:
Essential:
- Proven experience in manufacturing supervision or team leadership.
- Strong understanding of production processes, KPIs and workflow optimisation.
- Knowledge of health & safety, quality standards and compliance.
- Excellent communication, organisation and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to make fast, sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
Desirable:
- Experience within food manufacturing.
- Experience with OEE or other production performance systems.
- Calm under pressure with strong leadership presence.
- Confident communicator who can influence at all levels.
- Proactive, solutions focused and committed to continuous improvement.
Hours of work:
The hours for this role are 38.75 hours per week Monday – Friday between 10am to 6pm with flexibility to cover Production Supervisor from 7am. The salary for this role is £33,000.
