Senior Medical Writer – US-based (remote worker) – Job Description
The SMW plays a key role on the PHUS team by researching, drafting, writing, reviewing and delivering accurate and engaging scientific content (including scientific publications) for our biopharmaceutical clients and their healthcare stakeholders. Working closely with senior colleagues you will transform complex medical information into clear, accessible materials tailored to a variety of different audiences. You are or will become the therapy area expert in the area(s) of medicine in which you are involved and be very familiar with data and the data dissemination plan of assigned clients.

As an SMW your key responsibilities will include:
- Writing clear, grammatically correct, strategically aligned scientific material for a variety of audiences (e.g. healthcare professionals, internal client teams, patients/caregivers and patient advocacy)
- Ensuring the accuracy of all information, including clinical trial data, and referencing for publications (abstracts, posters, manuscripts), clinical slide presentations, and medical strategy documents (medical affairs plan and scientific platforms)
- Working collaboratively with other members of the Porterhouse team (e.g. Client Services, Creative and Editorial teams) to ensure successful completion of projects following established SOPs
- Ensuring responsiveness to senior reviews while also mentoring and reviewing the work of other medical team members as may be needed
- Providing strategic guidance both internally and to the client on your assigned projects
- Ensuring projects remain within specification and liaising with clients, internal colleagues and external experts to negotiate changes where necessary
- Being proactive in tracking projects and chasing comments from clients and authors as well as determining timelines
- Working on a variety of projects with multiple deadlines at the same time
- Learning and understanding new therapy areas quickly and comprehensively, inspiring confidence with the client
Desired background and skills
We are looking for an experienced senior medical writer to maintain our reputation as a first-class medical communications agency delivering scientific programs of the highest quality. Specifically, we are looking for individuals with the following skills, attributes, and qualifications:
- A PhD in a life science is preferred but Masters level candidates with practical work experience will be considered. A strong academic record and any additional academic or clinical qualifications will add to the strength of the application
- 3 – 5 years of progressive experience in a medical communications agency or pharmaceutical company is required though a strong academic record and demonstrated tangible skill in medical communications will also be considered
- A strong work ethic and a solution-focused ‘can do’ attitude combined with intellectual curiosity and creativity
- A passion for medical communications, simplifying complex themes, and creative approaches in communications and education
- This position is remote though some travel to client meetings, internal meetings and/or congresses is expected.
Salary Range: $95-105k
The base salary range represents the anticipated low and high of the salary range for this position. Actual salary will vary based on various factors such as the candidate’s qualifications, prior experience, skills, competencies, and therapeutic area proficiency needed in the role. Additional company benefits include paid time off, health/dental/vision care, available 401k plan well as a discretionary employer paid bonus.
