The Role
As Infrastructure & Systems Deputy Lead, you will support the delivery and evolution of a highly secure, network-driven platform responsible for processing and transmitting critical data within a Defence setting.
Day-to-day, You’ll work closely with the Technical Lead to provide technical oversight across infrastructure, networking, and security, ensuring the platform remains secure, reliable, and performant in a live 24/7 environment.
This role sits at the intersection of network engineering, cyber security, and systems integration, making it ideal for someone who enjoys working across disciplines and stepping into a broader technical leadership position.
Your responsibilities will include:
Leading technical activities across network, infrastructure, and systems engineering teams
Providing oversight to ensure secure and reliable data flow across networked systems
Supporting the implementation of security controls, encryption, and secure data handling practices
Driving improvements to system performance, resilience, and availability
Producing and reviewing technical documentation and designs
Engaging with stakeholders to resolve complex technical challenges
Essential experience of the Infrastructure & Systems Deputy Lead:
Strong background in network engineering (routing, firewalls, secure connectivity)
Experience working within secure or high-assurance IT environments
Knowledge of cyber security principles and secure system design
Experience supporting high availability or mission-critical systems
Background in infrastructure or systems integration
Ability to work across teams and contribute to technical leadership
Essential qualifications for the Infrastructure & Systems Deputy Lead:
Exposure to encryption, cryptography, or secure data transfer principles
Experience with scripting or automation (Python or PowerShell)
Previous experience in Defence, government, or regulated environments
Willingness and eligibility to obtain Developed Vetting (DV) clearance
Professional certifications such as ITIL, Security+, Network+, or similar (or working towards)

This role is 37 hours per week based at our Farnborough site with a minimum average site attendance of three days per week.
