This is a hands-on role. As a small company, the successful candidate will be expected to work directly on boats as part of the engineering team, while also coordinating other engineers, planning work, checking standards and helping keep projects moving in line with the build schedule.
The role will suit someone with broad practical experience across marine systems who can combine strong technical ability with good organisation, communication and team leadership.
Key Responsibilities
· Work hands-on on new build yacht engineering installations, commissioning and related project work with a particular emphasis on electrical and electronic systems.
· Organise and support the day-to-day work of other engineers within the team.
· Help plan engineering work across each build, from initial systems requirements through to commissioning and handover.
· Test and commission mechanical, electrical, plumbing and electronic systems to Rustler’s required standards.
· Coordinate with the company’s buyer to ensure parts, systems and materials are clearly specified and available when required.
· Provide technical information, part details and timing requirements to support procurement through the buyer.
· Interpret drawings, manuals and technical documentation and ensure installations are carried out correctly.
· Carry out fault diagnosis, practical problem-solving and quality checks throughout the build process.
· Work closely with production management and other departments to support efficient build progress.
· Maintain high standards of workmanship, safety, cleanliness and attention to detail.
Systems Experience
The successful candidate should have good practical knowledge across a range of yacht systems, including:
· Engines, stern gear, fuel systems, rudders and steering systems
· Fresh water, grey water, black water and bilge systems
· Electrical systems, batteries, charging and distribution
· Marine electronics and navigation equipment
· Pumps, seacocks, plumbing, heating and associated onboard installations
Skills and Experience
· Strong practical marine engineering experience, ideally in yacht building, refit or commissioning.
· A broad understanding of mechanical, electrical, plumbing and electronic systems on boats.
· Ability to lead by example while remaining fully hands-on.
· Good organisational skills and the ability to keep work moving across a busy build schedule.
· Excellent attention to detail and pride in high-quality workmanship.
· Ability to support, guide and communicate clearly with other engineers and departments.
· A positive, practical and team-focused approach.
What We Offer
· A key hands-on role within a respected Falmouth yacht-building company.
· The opportunity to work on high-quality bespoke sailing yachts from build through to handover.
· A small, supportive team environment.
· Competitive salary/package depending on experience.
· Bonus scheme, additional holiday for long service and additional hours where available.
