Location: Remote (UK-based)
Type: Self-employed / contractor
Earnings: £12,000/year retainer + commission (realistic first-year OTE £30,000–£55,000; top performers higher)
The role
We are partnered with a UK student recruitment consultancy specialising in widening participation, helping adult learners access foundation-year and undergraduate programmes at our partner universities, with full student finance available.
They are looking for experienced Student Recruitment Consultants who already know how to find, qualify, and enrol genuine students, and who want a straightforward deal: a monthly retainer for consistent performance, plus one of the strongest per-student commission structures in the sector, paid in stages across the academic year.
This is a self-employed role. You control your hours, your methods and your channels. We provide the university partnerships, the admissions support team that processes your applicants end-to-end, and the commission structure below.
What you'll earn
Retainer: £1,000 per month, conditional on meeting the minimum performance standard (below).
Commission per enrolled student, on top of the retainer, tiered by how many students you confirm in a single intake:
Students confirmed in one intake
You earn per student:
1–9 students: £600
10–19 students: £750
20+ students: £1,000
Reach a higher tier and the new rate applies to every confirmed student in that intake.
Commission is paid in three stages, one-third each, subject to university confirmation: end of Term 1 (student attending, initial assignments submitted), end of Term 2 (continued attendance, no compliance or funding concerns), and re-enrolment/progression.
Example: 12 students confirmed in the September intake puts you in the 10–19 tier, £750 per student, £9,000 for the intake, paid £250 per student at each stage. That's on top of your retainer.
£5,000 advance: consultants who reach the 20+ tier receive a £5,000 advance for that intake once students are fully enrolled, recoupable against that cohort's staged commission, so you benefit earlier.
Performance standard
- Minimum 5 offers to study per month to maintain the retainer. This is very achievable with our process: once a prospective student speaks to our admissions team, we can book them into a campus assessment for the following day, and the university typically issues an offer within 24 hours of the assessment. From first conversation to offer can be as little as 48 hours.
- Offers must come from genuinely qualified, finance-eligible students who intend to enrol, a reasonable share of your offers is expected to convert to enrolment at each intake. Offer volume without enrolments will not sustain the retainer.
- Only genuine students count for commission: applicants who enrol, attend and progress. Our commission stages are built around retention, students who drop out early don't complete your payment stages, so quality recruitment is how you get paid in full.
What we're looking for
Essential:
- A demonstrable track record of successful student enrolments into UK higher education (foundation year, undergraduate, or similar), you will be asked for specifics at screening.
- An existing network, community presence or proven channel for reaching prospective adult learners.
- Understanding of the UK student finance system and eligibility basics.
- Honest, compliant recruitment practice: no misleading claims about courses, finance or outcomes.
- Right to work in the UK and ability to operate on a self-employed basis.
Desirable:
- Experience recruiting widening-participation or adult learners specifically.
- Familiarity with foundation-year provision at alternative/independent providers.
- Multilingual or strong reach into specific communities.
How it works
- You source and refer prospective students.
- Our admissions team speaks to them and books them into a campus assessment, often for the very next day.
- The university typically issues an offer within 24 hours of the assessment.
- Our admissions team carries the student through finance, enrolment and onboarding end-to-end.
- You're paid the retainer monthly (against your offer target) and commission at each confirmed enrolment stage.
Pay: £15.00 per hour
Application question(s):
- Briefly describe your main channel for reaching prospective students (community, online, referral network, etc.).
- Only candidates with UK student recruitment experience will be considered for this role. How many students have you personally enrolled into UK higher education in the last 12 months, and with which providers or recruiters?
