SolidCor is on a mission to make volume fire door replacement possible within days — enabling the industry to rapidly achieve compliance and community safety in every building. Born out of the urgent need for change following the Grenfell disaster, we have built the fastest production times in the industry and the widest range of primary-tested fire door configurations. We are growing fast and we are looking for A-players to help us get there.
We are passionate about getting things right and obsessed with quality. Our products are safety-critical — when a fire door fails, the consequences are real. Our machining capability is central to how we manufacture at scale, and we need senior operators who can drive it forward.
We are looking for a Senior Multi Skilled CNC Machinist to play a leading role in our Chesterfield factory — operating and programming our CNC machining centres and associated production machinery, supporting the development of less experienced operators, and helping to drive the continuous improvement of our machining processes. This is a senior, hands-on role with real influence over how the machine side of our operation runs.
If you are an experienced, versatile CNC machinist who takes pride in precision, can turn your hand to multiple machines, and wants to be part of a fast-growing business making a real difference — this is the role for you.
-
Operate, set, and programme CNC machining centres — including 5-axis CNC (SCM M100) — to produce fire door components accurately and to specification.
- Work across multiple machine types including Beamsaw, Edgebander, and associated production machinery, adapting quickly to production priorities.
- Take a senior role in the machining area — supporting the setup, optimisation, and maintenance of CNC and associated machines to maximise uptime and output quality.
- Support, guide, and mentor less experienced CNC operators and machine operatives, sharing knowledge and helping to raise the overall skill level of the team.
- Write, edit, and optimise CNC programmes to improve cycle times, accuracy, and material yield.
- Carry out quality checks on machined components, identifying and resolving dimensional issues or non-conformances quickly and accurately.
- Perform routine maintenance, tooling changes, and first-line fault diagnosis on CNC and associated machinery.
- Work with the Plant Director and Production Shift Manager to identify process improvements and implement better ways of working in the machining area.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organised working environment in line with SolidCor’s H&S standards at all times.
-
An A-player mindset — high standards, extreme ownership and the drive to do things properly, the first time.
- Extensive experience operating and setting CNC machinery in a manufacturing environment — multi-machine experience across different CNC types is essential.
- Proven ability to programme CNC machines and optimise existing programmes for improved performance.
- Experience with 5-axis CNC machining (SCM M100 or equivalent) — essential.
- Experience with Beamsaw and Edgebander operation — preferable.
- Confident supporting and mentoring less experienced operators on the factory floor.
- Strong attention to detail — precise, consistent, and quality-focused in all machining work.
- Good understanding of H&S requirements in a factory environment.
- Background in joinery, timber, panel products, or fire door manufacturing (preferable).
- Relevant engineering or machining qualification (preferable).
This is a chance to take a senior role in the machining operation at one of the UK’s fastest growing fire door manufacturers — with real influence over how the machine side of our factory runs, a team to develop around you, and the satisfaction of knowing your work directly contributes to the safety of residents across the country. At SolidCor, we ask a lot — and we give a lot back. The hours are real, the standards are high and the work is demanding, but for those who show up, deliver and go the extra mile, the rewards follow. A-players here enjoy a competitive salary, a Personal Development Plan with ongoing training and mentoring, unlimited holiday, a bonus scheme paying up to 50% of annual salary, enhanced maternity and paternity, lunch, snacks and refreshments on us every day (fresh fruit and Takeaway Friday included), a team social budget, cycle to work, an auto-enrolment pension, two major company events a year and our Reward and Recognition scheme — including European mini-breaks for those who go above and beyond. It is a collaborative, high-energy environment focused on doing things the right way — and none of it is a perk for showing up; it’s what we share with the people pulling the business forward.
