Help a young person reconnect with learning
Many of our young people with SEMH needs or SEN have faced challenges that have left them feeling discouraged or disconnected from education. Every child deserves someone who won't give up on them - could that be you?
At Fresh Start we are looking for an experienced, patient and resilient educator and mentor to provide 1:1 support for a young person who has had a difficult start in life. Success in this role isn't about delivering a perfect lesson plan - it's about building a consistent, positive relationship that develops rapport, trust and the foundations for learning. Whether it’s using football to explore Maths, going out in the community to try new activities, unlocking their imagination through art and photography, or cooking favourite dishes in the kitchen, you’ll inspire your student to discover the joy of learning in a way that works for them. One learner, one relationship, one small step at a time.
Please note: It is an occupational and safeguarding requirement for this position to be filled by a male tutor. Other candidates may apply as other students in North and North-East Kent may be suitable matches.

Planning and delivering creative, bespoke 1:1 sessions based around the students' interests
- Running sessions during the school day (term time only) that typically last 3 to 5 hours
- Building a consistent, professional relationship that encourages attendance, motivation and positive outcomes
- In the longer term, building in Maths and English sessions in ways that will encourage engagement
- Engaging with students who may have ASD, ADHD, SEMH needs, or a history of trauma and helping them achieve outcomes at their pace
- Working flexibly as part of a compassionate, expert-led team that values you and your skills
We welcome applications from individuals who have:
- Experience (at least 2 years) supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs and SEN as mentors, educators, teaching assistants and SEN specialists
- A background in Secondary, Functional Skills or specialist SEND environments
- De-escalation and behaviour management skills
- A minimum of 3 consistent weekdays available
- An up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding and child protection

£25–£35 per hour, depending on experience

Due to the nature of the work and our commitment to safeguarding our students, you will be required to undergo thorough background checks including ID, Right to Work and employment checks and will also require an enhanced DBS.
