About the Role:
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated Senior Housing Standards Officer to join our friendly and dedicated Housing Standards Team.
In this key role, you will help ensure the Council meets its statutory responsibilities for improving the condition and management of private sector housing across Maidstone. Working as part of a professional team, you will play a vital role in protecting the health, safety and wellbeing of residents while helping to raise housing standards throughout the borough.
As a senior member of the team, you will provide support, guidance and motivation to colleagues, monitor team performance and outcomes, and offer expert technical advice on complex housing standards matters.
Alongside your responsibilities for supporting and developing colleagues, you will manage your own varied caseload, undertake investigations and inspections of residential properties and deal with the full range of housing standards enforcement activities. You will support the Council’s statutory duties relating to Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs), including licensing, compliance and enforcement, and will be responsible for preparing and serving relevant statutory notices where required.
The successful candidate will also contribute to the delivery of the Disabled Facilities Grant programme and other discretionary assistance schemes, helping vulnerable residents access funding and support to improve their homes and maintain independent living.
This is a full-time role working 37 hours per week on a permanent basis. This role offers the benefit of hybrid working, combining office-based working with home working, according to business needs. You will also be required to conduct property visits around the borough as needed.

About You:
The successful applicant will be an enthusiastic, highly motivated team player, with excellent communication skills. We would expect you to have relevant experience dealing with housing conditions, and a good working knowledge of the relevant legislation, statutory duties and HHSRS.
You should have experience in supervising and managing other team members including performance management and be approachable and supportive.
You should be a strong team player with relevant experience who embraces change and is able to work flexibility in order to meet the needs of the service.
You will also require a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle to enable you to travel around the borough to attend properties as needed.

Selection Process:
Following the submission of your application form, it will be reviewed by the recruiting manager. Those that are successful in securing an interview can expect job specific interview assessment, followed by an interview.
The Council considers that the successful applicant will have access to the Government’s secure network and will need to have a Baseline Personnel Security Standard check completed. In addition to the normal pre-employment checks this requires a criminal record check for unspent convictions and verification of employment history for the preceding 3 years. Where the 3 years of employment history cannot be verified through the most recent employment reference, you will need to provide a copy of your HMRC PAYE record for the 3-year period and will need to explain the reasons for any gaps in employment.
