Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) - Alternative Provision (Secondary)
To provide effective 1:1 and small-group support for pupils in a secondary alternative provision setting, helping them overcome the social, emotional, behavioural, and learning barriers that affect their access to education. The role involves building strong, consistent relationships with pupils, supporting their engagement, promoting positive behaviour, and helping them make progress in their learning and personal development.
Main responsibilities
- Support pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups.
- Build positive, professional relationships that help pupils feel safe, valued, and ready to engage.
- Help pupils overcome barriers to learning, including SEMH needs, behaviour, attendance, low confidence, communication difficulties, and additional learning needs.
- Deliver targeted support and interventions to improve engagement, resilience, wellbeing, and progress.
- Promote positive behaviour and use calm, consistent de-escalation strategies in line with school policy.
- Support pupils to develop emotional regulation, social skills, independence, and self-confidence.
- Monitor progress, keep accurate records, and share relevant feedback with the wider staff team.
- Work closely with pastoral, SEND, safeguarding, and leadership staff to ensure pupils receive the right support.
- Contribute to support plans, reviews, and strategies that help pupils re-engage with education.
- Safeguard and promote the welfare of all children and young people.
Pay: £23,000.00-£31,000.00 per year
