Full job description

Accountabilities

Boarding House Oversight: Manage the daily running of the Boarding House by holding Welcome and House Meetings, maintaining residential systems (daily room checks, cleaning, laundry, and general maintenance), enforcing bedtimes, conducting room inspections, and performing Health & Safety checks. This creates a secure, well-kept environment where students feel cared for and comfortable.

Pastoral Support: Work with the Welfare Manager and other House Parents to share essential information and deliver consistent, high-quality welfare care. Monitor students’ well-being and behaviour, handling minor issues directly and escalating serious concerns to the Welfare Manager or Centre Manager. Take personal responsibility for supporting homesick students and ensure safeguarding standards are upheld.

Student Behaviour Management: Observe and manage student conduct, responding immediately to any bullying or aggressive behaviour. Promote a safe and inclusive community in which every student can feel confident, respected, and free to express themselves regardless of their background or beliefs.

Bedrooms: Check all bedrooms regularly and ensure that they are as tidy as is possible. If rooms are found to be untidy, the occupant(s) must be told to tidy them up during their free time and the House Parent must check that this has been done.

Caring for Sick Students: Support students who are unwell and maintain a clear line of communication with the Welfare Manager. Ensure they are comfortable, hydrated, and appropriately looked after, maintaining a high standard of pastoral care.

House Registers: Take accurate House registers at the designated times (morning, afternoon, and evening), following policies for absences or missing students to ensure their safety. Ensure the house fire register is updated weekly and support the Fire Marshal/Warden in all house fire drills.

Dining Room Supervision: Assist in overseeing students during mealtimes, including queues, serving areas, and seating. encourage a calm and enjoyable dining experience for students, staff and host-school staff, paying attention to any students who appear not to be eating properly or misbehaving.

Activities, Pro-Options & Excursions: If directed by centre management, assist and support activities, pro-options and excursions in a professional, competent, and safe manner. Follow all relevant Risk Assessments to provide an engaging and high-quality Social Programme for students.

Student Feedback: Assist the teaching staff to ensuring all students complete their arrival and departure surveys on time. Act on any negative feedback to improve the quality of academic, social, and extracurricular programmes.

Student Transfers: To undertake student transfers courteously and efficiently, adhering to all timings and procedures to deliver a professional, high-quality welcome and departure service that ensures minimal waiting times and a positive first and last impression of the school

Night-time Emergencies: Respond to any emergencies occurring during the night in the Boarding House, taking appropriate action to ensure the safety of all students and staff.

Social Media Photography & Video: Under the direction of management holder is responsible for capturing high-quality footage of lessons, activities, evening entertainment, and excursions using British Summer School recording devices.

Centre Requirements: To help ensure that the centre is set up effectively and packed away as required by the Head Office team.

All duties are subject to change at the discretion of the Managing Director.

KEY PURPOSE OF JOB:
To be the main contact in the boarding house, ensuring students safety and emotional well-being and responding to any concerns in the appropriate manner

REPORTING TO:
Welfare Manager

HOURS:
Morning shift; 07:30 – 18:00 Afternoon shift; 13:30 – 23:15

The above shows the typical working hours. Staff will be scheduled across both weekdays and weekends. Weekend shifts may vary to support Check ins /outs or transfers.

Hours will vary between centres and according to the needs of the Summer School.

SALARY:
£638.55 per week + 12.07% Holiday Pay Total weekly pay £715.62 (Including Holiday Pay)

Accommodation Deduction: An accommodation deduction of £74.62 will deducted for those staff that are residential.
