Overview
We are seeking a talented and self-motivated Seamstress to join us at the Almshouse Arcade. This is a self-employed opportunity ideally suited to an experienced seamstress who can work independently, allowing you to craft bespoke garments and alterations from your own workspace. The ideal candidate will have a passion for sewing, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to manage their own schedule efficiently. This position provides an opportunity to showcase your skills while maintaining autonomy over your workload.

Duties

Create customised clothing and accessories according to client specifications, including alterations and repairs.
Measure clients accurately and interpret design requirements to deliver high-quality finished products.
Select appropriate fabrics, threads, and other materials for each project.
Operate sewing machines and other relevant equipment safely and efficiently.
Manage your own appointments, ensuring timely delivery of completed work.
Maintain a clean and organised workspace to uphold safety standards and optimise productivity.
Communicate effectively with clients regarding project progress, adjustments, and completion times.

Skills

Proven experience in sewing, dressmaking, or tailoring with a strong portfolio of completed projects.
Excellent technical skills in operating various sewing machines and tools.
Strong eye for detail with the ability to produce precise and high-quality craftsmanship.
Good organisational skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
Ability to interpret sketches or design ideas accurately into finished garments.
Effective communication skills for liaising with clients about their requirements.
Knowledge of different fabrics, patterns, and finishing techniques is desirable but not essential. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about sewing and prefer working independently in a flexible environment while delivering exceptional craftsmanship to clients.
