About the Role
Are you passionate about making a positive impact on young people's lives?
The Sea Cadets is the UK’s leading maritime charity and provides a head start in life for young people through nautical adventure and fun.
At Ross On Wye & Monmouth Sea Cadets we provide life-changing opportunities for many young people. We are seeking energetic and dedicated Volunteer Instructors to join our team and help foster confidence, and skills. In this role, you will support or lead engaging activities, provide mentorship, and support young individuals in a safe and friendly environment.
What difference will you make?
You will help our young people reach their potential and push themselves to learn more. Our volunteers help our cadets through the Cadet Training Programme (CTP) which puts them on a pathway to promotion and opens up new life changing opportunities.
The structure and ethos, taken from today’s Royal Navy and Royal Marines gives our cadets immense pride and a sense of belonging. Your impact as a uniformed or non-uniformed volunteer will help grow their confidence, skills and make them stand out in today’s complex and competitive world.
What are we looking for?
You don't need any prior knowledge of the military or youth group activities, although useful, because our friendly team can show you everything!
We are looking for people who are keen to get involved, learn, and try new things and want to give back to the community.
Our cadets parade on Monday and Thursday evenings. We are looking for someone to be able to commit one of these evenings a week, and we support flexible volunteering. We also engage in local events on some weekends which are managed and planned well in advance.
You should be confident in speaking to young people and feel that you can provide a positive role model and influence on a young person.
Basic computer skills are ideal, being able to manage/read and reply to emails (email account provided) and be able to navigate an online training module.
Whatever your experience and skills, they could be utilised to help young people flourish – catering, archery, meteorology, navigation, orienteering, first aid, engineering, photography, marketing, football coaching, IT, social media, finance, driving - there is no limit. Whatever your interest, you could bring it to our Unit.
You could also share your skills out on the water with the next generation, through the opportunity to teach watersports such as kayaking, sailing, powerboating, canoeing, rowing and windsurfing. If you don’t have any watersport qualifications, we’ll provide you with all the equipment, training and the opportunity to gain national qualifications with the Royal Yachting Association, British Rowing and UK Paddle.
All training is provided for safeguarding and onboarding.
