Full job description

Position: Refuse Driver - Grade F (Driving)
Location: Stores Road, Derby, DE21 4BD
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Duration: 3+ Months
Working Hours: 37 hours per week
Pay Rate: PAYE: £15.56 per hour

Job Responsibilities

Drive refuse collection vehicles safely and efficiently across designated routes.
Carry out daily vehicle checks and report any defects or maintenance issues.
Collect household waste, recycling, and other materials in line with council procedures.
Work as part of a frontline waste collection team, supporting loaders and colleagues.
Follow health and safety procedures, manual handling guidance, and environmental standards.
Ensure waste collection services are delivered safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
Provide a professional service when interacting with residents and members of the public.
Complete required paperwork and operational records accurately.
Maintain a clean and safe working environment.

Person Specification
Skills & Experience

Valid driving licence with appropriate HGV entitlement (essential).
Experience driving large vehicles, ideally refuse vehicles or similar.
Knowledge of vehicle safety checks and road safety requirements.
Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
Ability to carry out manual tasks and support waste collection duties when required.
Reliable, punctual, and able to work as part of a team.
Good awareness of health and safety procedures.
Good communication skills and a customer-focused approach.

Additional Requirements

Must be willing to wear required PPE including safety shoes, high visibility jacket, and ballistic trousers.
Flexible approach to working hours and operational requirements.
