The Volkswagen Group UK National Learning Centre is the UK’s largest automotive training facility. Located in Milton Keynes, the centre is home to the Group’s training operations, developing our base of 26,000 retailer learners in the UK. Calex is the supplier of learning services, working in partnership with Volkswagen Group UK.
The Commercial Training Team Manager will be responsible for the management of the commercial training function and the design, development, quality and effectiveness of the training delivered for Volkswagen Group.
Key Responsibilities
- To maintain class leading commercial training delivery across Volkswagen Group’s retailer training
- To evaluate the effectiveness of all training delivered, making any recommendations to ensure learning and business objectives are met
- To manage the development and maintenance of training materials through content and production and resourcing of projects to meet deadlines
- To develop the commercial training team, through one-to-one coaching, performance development reviews, team meetings, observations and the support of day-to-day activities
- Manage the progression of all commercial training staff through agreed training qualification routes
- Ensure an effective and efficient training plan is created and maintained throughout each quarter ensuring sufficient resources and personnel are available within the team to deliver against contractual requirements
- Review the utilisation of scheduled training making decisions to maximize the utilisation of live commercial training courses
- Support all model launch events ensuring the transition from the development and planning stage to the initial delivery of the event is as effective and cost efficient as possible
- Manage any performance or behavioural issues experienced with delegates whilst attending training at the NLC, escalating these issues as and when required
- Actively engage and build strong relationships across the business, establishing good communication links with Brand and departmental stakeholders
- Keep up-to-date with current learning practices and theories through reading, research and networking
- Ensure all commercial training budgets are tracked and kept in line with client requirements
- Maintain existing relationships with our associate trainers, managing performance and engagement with this extended resource
- Progress recruitment opportunities, notify vacancies, approve probationary periods and define job roles and responsibilities for the commercial team
- Ensure that newly recruited employees are suitably equipped, inducted and motivated to make a significant contribution to the business
- Ensure compliance with quality procedures
- Carry out any other reasonable duties as defined by line management

The ideal candidate will also be able to demonstrate strengths in the following qualities:
- Have a strong learning & development background. An expert in your field, you’ll understand best practice and how it can achieve ROI as well as reinforce business goals.
- Have demonstrable experience of working with Instructional Designers, resourcing their activities to achieve content and production timelines.
- Have strong line management skills and an inspiring and collaborative leadership style. Being able to balance strategic thinking with day-to-day operational management.
- Be proactive with stakeholders, forward-thinking, commercial and highly communicative, with the ability to influence business decisions.
- Have clear focus on who our customers are and empathy for their needs.
- Be focused on delivering against business objectives and targets.
- Have strong negotiating skills, with the ability to manage conflicting situations and priorities.
- Have experience with competency frameworks and the mapping of course content to internal and external qualification routes or awarding bodies.
- Have experience in planning training and people development activities.
- Be a creative thinker with strong problem-solving skills.
- Understand large contracts and their implementation within a commercial environment and have experience of working in learning departments with a focus on achieving set qualification standards & targets.
- Have a good knowledge of IT, particularly Learning Management Systems and Microsoft packages.
- Hold relevant L&D qualifications.

Contract: Permanent / Full Time
Working Hours: Monday to Friday / 40 hours per week
Place of Work: VWG National Learning Centre (NLC), Wymbush, Milton Keynes.
We currently operate hybrid working with at least 60% of time in the NLC with the opportunity to work up to 40% remotely. Time spent in the office may change and is subject to business requirements. There will also be times when it may be necessary to work from alternative locations, e.g. VWG facilities and retailers, and other sites as necessary to perform the role including international events.
Pre-employment Checks: Calex will undertake the relevant/standard employment checks with any successful candidate. This includes contacting all nominated referees, as well as checking candidate ID, driving licence (if appropriate) and right to work in the UK.
