Job Overview:
We are seeking a reliable and flexible casual HGV Driver / Yard Person to support the day-to-day operations of our motor vehicle workshops on an as-needed basis. This role combines safe and professional HGV driving with general yard duties, ensuring vehicles, equipment, and materials are managed efficiently and safely. The successful candidate will be adaptable, safety-conscious, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities:
HGV Driving Duties
- The collection and delivery of trucks and trailers from clients and our various M&N sites, demonstrating the excellent customer service and professionalism in doing so.
- Systematically and with care, manoeuvre vehicles around the site and workshop to assist with daily with workflow and coordination.
- Support the wider team to meet deadlines by collecting parts and other items from suppliers and various M&N sites when required.
- Operate HGV vehicles safely and in accordance with all road traffic laws and company policies.
- Using the appropriate machinery, support the team to prepare vehicles for testing, by safely loading vehicles with the required weight loads as directed.
- Present vehicles for MOT at the testing facility, as required, following the appropriate legislation and safety procedures in doing so.
- Following the correct procedures, take vehicles for brake testing as required, and ensure all necessary paperwork is completed to record findings.
- Complete daily pre-use vehicle inspections and relevant documentation.
- Report vehicle defects, incidents, or maintenance requirements promptly.
- Ensure loads are secured correctly and transported safely.
Yard Person Duties
- Organise, store, and move materials and equipment within the yard and workshop.
- Keep the yard and workshop clean, tidy, and safe at all times.
- Conduct routine checks on equipment and report faults.
- Assist with vehicle washing, basic maintenance checks, and yard housekeeping.
- Follow all health and safety procedures and contribute to a safe working environment.
Skills and Experience
- Essential Valid C+E HGV Drivers Licence (Class 1)
- Digital Tachograph Card.
- Good understanding of driver hours regulations and road safety requirements.
- Ability to work flexibly both in the duties undertaken, and the role holder’s personal availability; being able to respond to short notice work requirements.
- A proactive approach to work, with the ability to work independently and to think outside the box.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Strong commitment to health and safety.
- Desirable Knowledge and experience of brake testing vehicles.
- Forklift licence or relevant plant/equipment operating experience.
- Previous experience in a yard, transport, or garage workshop environment.
- Basic vehicle maintenance knowledge.
- Knowledge of motor vehicle workshop health and safety requirements.

Pay: £13.50-£15.00 per hour
