Job summary
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Trust Grade Doctor to join the General Adult Psychiatry team at Melbury Lodge, Winchester, working across Rosemary Ward (13-bed female acute ward) and Sherwood Ward (13-bed male acute ward). This six-month full-time post offers an excellent opportunity for a doctor who has completed Foundation training (or equivalent) and wishes to further develop their experience in psychiatry.
Working alongside two Consultant Psychiatrists, a Specialty Doctor and resident doctors, the post holder will provide day-to-day medical care for adult mental health inpatients, participate in consultant-led ward rounds, undertake mental and physical health reviews, complete discharge summaries, and liaise with general hospital services as required. The role includes active participation in multidisciplinary team meetings, reflective practice sessions, quality improvement projects, audits and clinical governance activities, ensuring care is delivered in line with national and local guidelines.
The successful candidate will be supported through regular clinical supervision and encouraged to engage in educational and professional development opportunities, including psychology-led teaching, audit work and quality improvement initiatives.

Main duties, tasks & skills required
- Provide FY/CT Resident doctor level day to day care for general adult psychiatry inpatient setting, together with ward rounds with the consultants.
- Take a lead in physical health care of patients, and liaising the general hospital as required.
- Completing discharge summaries
- Undertaking reviews of patients' mental state.
- Participation in MDT meetings.
- Participation in reflective practice on the ward.
- Develop understanding of the roles of the MDT.
- Attend psychology-led teaching to develop ability in delivering psychological techniques.
- Audit and Clinical Governance.
- Regular supervision throughout the post.
- Demonstrate awareness of national and local guidelines relating to specialty (e.g. NICE guidelines) and influence care developments in accordance with these.
