The Gallivant

Near Rye, East Sussex

This is a role for a hungry, articulate closer who wants to own a sales function and grow with the business.

The Gallivant is a Michelin Key boutique hotel near Rye on the East Sussex coast, with a national reputation for delivering best in class hospitality, food and corporate events. Harry’s, our restaurant led by Group Head Chef Matthew Harris, has been named by Grace Dent at The Guardian among her favourite restaurants outside London in 2026. In 2025 the English Tourist Board recognised The Gallivant as Small Hotel of the Year.

We are looking for someone with a proven past record of excellence in high-value sales, possibly within hospitality but equally from SaaS, real estate, travel, experiences and events. You want to be associated with a highly aspirational, high-value and well-loved product, dealt with fairly, and properly rewarded financially for your success.

The commercial story

Four things make this an unusually strong role for an ambitious salesperson:

1. A product that has earned its reputation. The Gallivant has been built quietly and patiently over more than fifteen years into a property the national press and the Michelin Guide both single out. The work now is to sell something that consistently delivers – the quality is there in every guest stay, every plate at Harry’s, every corporate buyout. You are not asking prospects to take a leap of faith.

2. An exceptional inbound funnel. Brand, word of mouth and social bring around sixty high-quality enquiries through the door every month, with a total annualised TCV of circa £3.5m high end corporate offsites, weddings, private parties and luxury brand activations. The pipeline is healthy, consistent and growing.

3. A second property coming on stream. In approximately twelve months we open our second hotel at Littlestone, 30 minutes from Camber. It will be higher-spec, more aspirational and price meaningfully above The Gallivant. Two distinct products to match to each enquiry will lift both deal value and conversion – effectively doubling the opportunity for the right person.

4. A serious close target and the bonus to match. Annual contract value closed by this role will run well into seven figures across both sites, with the bonus structured to reflect that. On-target earnings will be unusually strong for the sector and the career trajectory as we expand into further sites is real and multi-faceted.

The role

This is an important commercial role with full ownership of the group sales function.

The enquiry mix sits across three segments, in order of weight in the business:

Corporate offsites – mainly exclusive use for teams of 10 to 30, one or more nights, primarily from finance, media, legal, IT, fashion and luxury goods
Wedding parties – 50 to 80 guests, one or more nights
Private celebrations – birthdays, anniversaries and milestone gatherings, broadly comparable in scope and value to wedding parties

Indicative split: approximately 70% corporate, 20% wedding parties, 10% private celebrations.

What you will own

The close – responding to inbound enquiries, conducting site visits, building tailored proposals, negotiating and securing signature
Pipeline management, forecasting and weekly reporting
The sales process, our CRM and sales toolkit – proposals, contracts, templates

Who we’re looking for

A proven closer who is excited by the volume and quality of the inbound funnel and the excellence of the product. The product is beautiful, aspirational, constantly in the national press and perfectly aligned to our prospect audience.

Hospitality experience is helpful but not essential. We are open to candidates from any background where the work is consultative, articulate, relationship-led and target-driven.

Specifically, we are looking for someone who is:

A proven closer with a track record of converting high-value leads into signed contracts
Highly articulate, both verbally and in writing
Intelligent and quick to learn, ideally with a degree in an academic subject, so you become independent fast
Commercially sharp, instinctively focused on margin, value and the close
Motivated by money – there will be a strong bonus structure
A person of genuine integrity – honest in the way you deal with prospects, colleagues and the business
Drawn to being associated with a product that exists to create happiness for its guests, and proud to represent a brand widely recognised as a leader in the sector
Ambitious for the longer term, alive to the career opportunities as the group expands into further sites and locations
AI-confident – we use AI in every part of the business and view its use and continual adaptation as a key success factor

This is not a role for someone who wants to take event bookings. It is a role for someone who wants to close them, own the function, and grow with the business.

Location

Based on site at The Gallivant near Rye, East Sussex, with regular travel to Littlestone once it opens. Some flexibility on remote working will be considered for the right candidate, but a strong on-site presence is required – the site visit is part of the close and being present in the building when prospects walk in matters.
