CMS GeoScience is seeking an experienced Lead Geotechnical Operator to take a key role in our geotechnical operations.
This is a practical, hands-on position for somebody with strong seabed CPT experience who can also operate, maintain and troubleshoot a broader range of marine geotechnical equipment.
The successful candidate will help coordinate and deliver our geotechnical operations, supervise and mentor other operators, oversee equipment preparation and maintenance, and support the continued development of our workshop systems and operating procedures.
The Role
The successful candidate will lead the day-to-day management of our CPT and Vibrocore operations, including:
· Assisting with the planning, coordination and delivery of marine geotechnical operations from initial equipment preparation through to mobilisation, offshore operations and demobilisation.
· Operating equipment including vibrocorers, seabed CPT systems, Vibrocorers, grab samplers, winches and associated deployment and recovery systems.
· Taking a leading operational role offshore and providing technical guidance to other operators
· Monitoring equipment performance, sample recovery and acquired data to identify operational or quality issues.
· Undertaking seabed CPT operations and monitoring CPT data during acquisition
· Diagnosing and resolving mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronic equipment faults.
· Ensuring samples are recovered, handled, recorded and stored in accordance with project requirements.
· Helping to manage the geotechnical workshop and both overseeing and carrying out equipment maintenance,
· Overseeing and completing inspection records, defect reports, repairs, spares and equipment documentation.
· Supervising, mentoring and developing existing and trainee geotechnical operators.
· Reviewing and improving operating procedures, maintenance systems, mobilisation checklists and working practices.
· Liaising with project managers, geotechnical engineers, surveyors, vessel crews and client representatives.
· Ensuring all activities comply with company procedures, project requirements and health, safety, environmental and quality standards.
About you;
We are looking for someone with
· 5 years practical experience operating marine geotechnical and seabed-sampling equipment in offshore or nearshore environments.
· Proven experience operating seabed CPT systems.
· Strong practical mechanical, hydraulic and electrical fault-finding skills.
· Experience preparing, testing, maintaining and repairing marine geotechnical equipment.
· Experience of equipment mobilisation, vessel integration, offshore deployment and demobilisation.
· The ability to assess equipment performance, sample recovery and data quality during operations.
· The ability to lead offshore activities and work confidently without continuous technical supervision.
· Experience supervising or mentoring other operators.
· Strong safety awareness and experience working around lifting operations, winches, hydraulic equipment and vessel deck activities.
· The ability to remain calm and solve practical problems in demanding offshore conditions.
· Good communication, teamwork and record-keeping skills.
· Willingness to work offshore and travel throughout the UK and internationally.
· Full clean UK driving license and valid passport
· Right to work in the UK
Experience with the DATEM 5000 or a comparable seabed CPT system would be particularly valuable.
A relevant mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, marine engineering or electro-mechanical qualification would be advantageous but is not essential where suitable practical experience can be demonstrated.
