Job Title: Project Manager
Main Purpose of the Job
Project Managers at Piran Composites are required to lead the successful delivery of complex customer programmes from contract award through to final delivery and customer acceptance. The role requires ownership of project performance across scope, cost, schedule, quality, risk and customer satisfaction. Experience within composite manufacturing is highly desirable but not essential.

Key Responsibilities
1. Develop and maintain detailed project plans and schedules
- Create, manage and continuously update comprehensive project plans covering scope, deliverables, milestones, resources and critical paths.
- Monitor project progress against agreed schedules and implement recovery plans where required to mitigate delays and maintain programme objectives.
- Ensure effective integration of engineering, procurement, manufacturing and customer deliverables within the overall project schedule.
2. Lead engineering, procurement, quality, production and commercial teams
- Provide cross-functional leadership to project teams, ensuring alignment with project objectives, contractual commitments and business goals.
- Coordinate activities across Engineering, Procurement, Production, Quality, Supply Chain and Commercial functions to achieve successful project execution.
- Facilitate regular project review meetings and support the resolution of technical, operational and commercial issues.
3. Act as primary customer interface and manage stakeholder communications
- Serve as the principal point of contact for customers throughout the project lifecycle.
- Establish and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring clear communication of project status, risks, opportunities and key decisions.
- Manage customer expectations and ensure prompt resolution of concerns, issues and change requests.
4. Prepare project status reports and present progress to management and customers
- Produce accurate and timely project reports covering schedule performance, costs, risks, quality metrics and key milestones.
- Present project updates to senior management, customers and stakeholders through formal review meetings and governance forums.
- Highlight deviations from plan and recommend corrective actions to maintain project performance.
5. Manage budgets, forecasts, cash flow and project financial performance
- Take ownership of project budgets, ensuring effective cost control and financial governance throughout the project lifecycle.
- Prepare and maintain financial forecasts, monitor expenditure and track project profitability against established targets.
- Manage cash flow, invoicing milestones and revenue recognition activities in accordance with contractual requirements and company procedures.
6. Coordinate new product introduction and manufacturing readiness activities
- Lead New Product Introduction (NPI) activities, ensuring smooth transition from development into production.
- Coordinate manufacturing readiness reviews, process development, tooling requirements and production planning activities.
- Work closely with engineering and operations teams to ensure products are delivered on time, within budget and to the required quality standards.
7. Support quotation, bid and contract review processes
- Contribute to the preparation of customer quotations, project cost estimates and business proposals.
- Participate in bid reviews to ensure technical, commercial and operational requirements are fully understood and appropriately costed.
- Review customer contracts and support the identification and mitigation of commercial, financial and delivery risks.
8. Manage suppliers and subcontractors against programme requirements
- Oversee supplier and subcontractor performance to ensure delivery, quality and cost objectives are achieved.
- Monitor procurement activities and supplier schedules to maintain alignment with project requirements.
- Resolve supply chain issues proactively and support supplier development initiatives where required.
9. Drive continuous improvement and lessons learned activities
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement across project teams through the application of best practices and process improvement initiatives.
- Facilitate lessons learned reviews at key project stages and ensure findings are captured and implemented in future programmes.
- Support improvements in project management methodologies, tools and reporting processes.
10. Ensure compliance with contractual, regulatory and safety requirements
- Ensure all project activities are executed in accordance with contractual obligations, customer specifications, regulatory requirements and company policies.
- Promote a strong health, safety and environmental culture across project teams and suppliers.
- Ensure compliance with relevant quality management systems, industry standards and governance processes.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Minimum 5 years’ project management experience in engineering, manufacturing or technical environments.
- Proven delivery of complex customer-facing projects.
- Strong commercial awareness and budget management experience.
- Experience managing schedules, risks, resources and stakeholders.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and leadership skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Project, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Composite manufacturing experience.
- Knowledge of aerospace, defence, automotive, marine or renewable energy sectors.
- APM PMQ, PRINCE2 Practitioner, PMP or equivalent qualification.
- Understanding of NPI and production ramp-up activities.
- Knowledge of ERP/MRP systems and ISO9001/AS9100 standards.
