Data Scientist, Manchester (Office & Home Working)

INRIX is a global leader in the transport and traffic intelligence sector. Our aim is to provide usable, reliable information on human movement to make cities smarter, safer and more desirable. We help to power some of the largest companies and organisations in the world, and are looking for a curious, driven, data scientist to help us.

Our data science team works within a squad model, collaborating with engineers across functions and time zones to take projects from prototype to production. We use Databricks as our core platform and are looking to extend that adoption across other teams, there is scope to influence our data strategy if that interests you.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop innovative algorithms and machine learning models that add value to our data.
Process and analyse large-scale mobility datasets describing the movement of populations.
Build and maintain the data pipelines behind your own models within Databricks, from raw ingestion through transformation to production.
Be self-led in your research of ml models and algorithms to solve interesting and non-standard problems.
Design impactful data visualizations and insights to communicate your work with stakeholders, both expert and non-technical, across the business.
Pioneer the use of emerging data science and machine learning techniques and technologies to ensure best practice within the business.

What We Are Looking For:

Required:

A creative and inquiring mind with considerable problem-solving ability.
An excellent grasp of advanced mathematic concepts related to DS (e.g. Linear Algebra, Statistics).
Experience building ML that has been tested in a real-world setting (production/research).
The ability to work effectively in a team, take and give advice where necessary.
An advanced degree in a subject with significant statistical or mathematical content or demonstrable technical strength through experience.
Demonstrable experience in scientific computing (Python preferred).
Proficiency in SQL and/or PySpark.

Highly Desirable:

An excellent grasp of DS concepts with emphasis on modern ML techniques.
Experience building and maintaining production data pipelines, ideally hands-on with Databricks (Delta Lake, Workflows, Unity Catalog) or a similar Spark-based lakehouse platform.
Familiarity with MLflow or similar tooling for experiment tracking and model deployment.
Experience accessing and processing structured and unstructured data in AWS.
Exceptionally good written and verbal presentation skills.
Understanding of how to create effective visualisations from data.

Desirable:

Experience with traffic or mobility data.
