Workshop Operative
At Home Front Outdoor Play, we design and build high-quality, handcrafted timber playgrounds that inspire imagination, creativity, and active play in homes, nurseries, schools, local parks and hotels across the UK.
With a focus on safety, sustainability, and craftsmanship, our team is passionate about creating outdoor spaces that children love and brings communities together.
This exciting role will be based primarily at the company’s purpose-built workshop in Salisbury. This role requires good physical fitness, a keen eye for detail, and a commitment to excellence in British manufacturing.
The role
This isn’t just about raw timber and machinery; it's about being the foundational backbone of the joy we deliver. You will be crafting the very pieces that spark children's imaginations. Whether you're a seasoned woodworker, an experienced bench joiner, a product assembler, or someone exceptionally handy with a passion for making things, you’ll have the valuable and transferable skills for this role.
We operate with an all-as-one team mindset. Whether you are in the workshop, out on installation, or in the office, we all pull together to get the job done. This means bringing a positive, "can-do" attitude to work every day, actively looking for solutions rather than problems, and being ready to get stuck in whenever and wherever the business needs it most.
Responsibilities include
* Accurate cutting, shaping, and preparation of high-quality timber components.
* Assembly and pre-fabrication of play equipment structures within our Salisbury workshop.
* Quality checking all materials to ensure they meet our strict safety and craftsmanship standards.
* Safely operating workshop machinery, power tools, and hand tools.
* Supporting the loading and unloading of vehicles to ensure our installation teams have everything they need for site.
* Adapting to flexible hours with overtime during our peak, busier periods to ensure we hit our deadlines.
* Occasionally heading out on-site to assist the installation teams when an extra pair of hands is needed.
* Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe workshop environment.
* Continuous skill development, both personally and professionally.
The ideal candidate
* Embodies honesty, integrity, and punctuality.
* Exceptional communication skills and naturally team-oriented, supporting the wider business across the workshop, office, and field.
* Enthusiastic, hardworking, and self-motivated with a proactive, solution-focused attitude.
* Comfortable working from technical drawings or manufacturing instructions.
* Shares the company values and growth ambitions.
* Practical experience working with timber, tools, or in a manufacturing environment is highly desirable.
