We are currently looking for a reliable and adaptable Yard Worker to join our steel fabrication company. This is a hands‑on role suited to someone physically fit, practical, and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
The successful applicant will be responsible for maintaining the yard, handling steel materials, preparing items for galvanising and powder coating, and supporting the workshop team when required.
This role is temporary during a probationary period, with the potential for a permanent position depending on performance.
Key DutiesYard Responsibilities:
- Loading and unloading steel using a forklift (training can be provided)
- Manual lifting and sorting of steel beams, railing panels, and fabricated items
- Preparing and cleaning steelwork for galvanising or powder coating
- Basic checking and cleaning of welds
- Tracking and recording items sent to galvanisers and powder coaters
- Keeping the yard clean, tidy, and well organised
- Maintaining safe walkways and storage areas
- Assisting workshop staff when required

- Working outdoors in all weather conditions
- Following safe and responsible working methods
- Using hand tools and basic equipment
- Supporting the day‑to‑day running of the yard and workshop
Experience / Qualities:
- Physically fit and comfortable with manual work
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- No prior experience required – full training provided
- Forklift experience beneficial but not essential
- CSCS card helpful but not required
Pay & Benefits:
- Starting at National Minimum Wage (higher rates possible depending on age and experience)
