Full job description

Overview
The Learning & Development Lead is responsible for leading the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of learning and capability development across Astemo UK, Ltd. The role supports operational excellence, safety, compliance, and future workforce capability within a manufacturing and engineering environment.

Working closely with Operations, Engineering, Quality, HSE and HR, the L&D Lead ensures that employees at all levels have the skills, knowledge, and behaviours required to deliver business objectives, support continuous improvement, and respond to evolving technology and customer requirements.

Responsibilities:

Learning Strategy & Direction

Lead the development and delivery of Learning & Development initiatives aligned to business objectives

Lead the identification and development of skills required across manufacturing, engineering, and technical roles

Translate organisational priorities into practical learning solutions

Ensure learning activity supports current performance and future capability needs

Learning Needs Analysis

Identify skills gaps through data analysis, stakeholder input, and workforce insights

Conduct training needs analyses at individual, team, and organizational levels

Prioritise learning interventions based on risk, compliance, and business impact

Design & Delivery of Learning

Design, deliver, and evaluate learning programmes

Apply blended learning approaches including classroom, virtual, on‑the‑job, and digital learning

Ensure learning content is practical, engaging, and aligned to adult learning principles

Compliance & Mandatory Training

Lead delivery and governance of mandatory, statutory, and compliance training

Ensure training records are accurate, up to date, and audit‑ready

Work closely with HR, Health & Safety, and Quality teams to manage compliance risk

Learning Systems & Data Management

Manage the Learning Management System (LMS) and learning administration processes

Track learning activity, completion, competency, and effectiveness

Use data and insight to inform decisions and improve learning outcomes

Continuous Improvement

Evaluate the effectiveness and impact of learning interventions

Gather feedback and use insights to improve learning programmes

Stay up to date with learning trends, tools, and best practice

Continually improve training approaches based on feedback, data, and business need

Requirements

Proven experience in a Learning & Development role, with responsibility for leading or coordinating L&D activity

Experience conducting training needs analysis and translating business requirements into effective learning solutions

Experience working in a manufacturing, engineering, or operational environment

Strong understanding of technical, safety, and compliance training requirements

Ability to engage credibly with shop‑floor employees and senior leaders

Experience managing learning systems, competency frameworks, and training data

Strong stakeholder management and communication skills

Qualifications and Previous Experience

CIPD Level 5 qualification or equivalent professional experience
Experience ensuring compliance with mandatory and statutory training requirements
Experience supporting organizational change, transformation, or new initiatives
Experience using blended and digital learning solutions

Desirable

Experience within automotive manufacturing environments
Experience supporting digitalisation, automation
Coaching or facilitation qualification

Organisational Level & Limits of Authority

Reports to: UK Site HR Manager
Direct Reports: None
Selects and manages external training providers in line with procurement policy
Report higher level issues to UK Site Manager

Level of Customer Interface – Internal & External

Main internal customer is Production, Engineering, Maintenance, HSE, HR & Quality teams
External contact with other Astemo sites.
External training providers

12 Months FTC

Pay: £45,000.00-£48,000.00 per year
