Specialist Care Team is a local care provider based in Morecambe. We are looking for one or two people to help us improve our staff training.
We support people in their own homes. This includes people with learning disabilities, autistic people, and those with mental health needs.
Our aim is to provide kind, respectful and person-centred support.
Pay: £13.45 per hour (We may also pay reasonable travel and other costs that help you take part)
Minimum payment: £25 for each staff training session
Hours: Flexible, with no set hours
Location: Morecambe and Heysham. Some planning may happen online.
About the role
You must have personal experience of:
- having a learning disability, and/or
- being autistic.
Your experiences and views will help staff understand what good support should look and feel like.
You do not need qualifications or experience of delivering training. We will support you.
What you will do
At a two-hour planning meeting you will:
- tell us what good support means to you
- help decide what staff need to learn
- share some of your experiences
When you have attended the planning meeting you will attend small training sessions for 10 to 15 staff, where you will:
- answer questions from staff
- tell staff what helps and what does not help
- suggest ways that support and training could improve.
Training sessions will usually last between two and four hours.
You will not have to lead the training on your own. A member of our training team will be there to lead the session.
Who we are looking for
We are looking for someone who:
- has a learning disability and/or is autistic
- wants to help improve support services
- is willing to share some personal experiences
- can take part in a group discussion, with support if needed
- can work respectfully with other people
- will keep other people’s private information confidential.
It would be helpful if you have spoken to groups before, but this is not required.
Support we can offer
We will ask what support you need to take part.
This could include:
- help with travel
- bringing a supporter with you
- regular breaks
- a quiet space
- seeing questions before the session
- help to prepare what you want to say
- other reasonable adjustments.
You can tell us what would make the role easier and more comfortable for you.
Purpose of the role
Your role is to help plan and deliver staff training.
You will help make sure:
- staff hear directly from people with lived experience
- training is respectful and realistic
- staff understand how their actions affect people
- training focuses on what matters to people receiving support.
This role is only for someone who has a learning disability and/or is autistic because the main purpose of the job is to help staff learn directly from a person with lived experience.
