About the Role
We are looking for enthusiastic, energetic, and reliable Outdoor Instructors to join our Adventure Camps team, delivering an exciting bushcraft and outdoor learning programme for children and young people.
This is a fixed-term role for a two-week programme running from Monday 17th August to Friday 28th August. Successful applicants should be available to work throughout the programme dates.
As an Outdoor Instructor, you will create safe, engaging, and memorable outdoor experiences where children can develop confidence, resilience, teamwork, and a connection with nature. You will lead a wide range of bushcraft and outdoor adventure activities, encouraging curiosity, creativity, problem-solving, and environmental awareness while ensuring every child has an enjoyable and rewarding experience.
Working as part of a supportive team, you will inspire children of all ages and abilities to challenge themselves, learn new practical skills, and embrace the outdoors in a safe and inclusive environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging bushcraft and outdoor learning sessions for children aged 5–14.
- Lead activities such as shelter building, fire lighting (where appropriate), campfire cooking, knot tying, woodland crafts, tool awareness, nature exploration, navigation, den building, tracking, and survival skills.
- Adapt activities to suit different ages, abilities, and individual needs, ensuring every child can participate and succeed.
- Create a positive, inclusive, and supportive atmosphere where children feel confident to learn, explore, and develop new skills.
- Supervise children throughout activities, break times, lunch periods, and transitions between sessions.
- Promote teamwork, resilience, respect for others, environmental responsibility, and safe outdoor practices.
- Carry out dynamic risk assessments and maintain high standards of health and safety during all activities.
- Ensure all equipment is used safely, maintained appropriately, and stored correctly after each session.
- Work collaboratively with fellow instructors and camp leaders to deliver an outstanding outdoor education programme.
- Act as a positive role model by demonstrating enthusiasm, professionalism, excellent communication, and a passion for the outdoors.
- Maintain safeguarding standards and follow all child protection procedures at all times.
Requirements
- Experience working with children or young people in outdoor education, bushcraft, forest school, youth work, adventure activities, holiday camps, scouting, or similar settings.
- Experience delivering practical outdoor activities in woodland or natural environments.
- A qualification in, or currently studying towards, Outdoor Education, Forest School, Bushcraft, Environmental Education, Sport, Childcare, Youth Work, or a related field is desirable.
- A valid First Aid qualification (or willingness to obtain before the programme begins).
- Safeguarding/Child Protection training (or willingness to complete).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A positive, enthusiastic, and flexible approach.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Passion for inspiring children through outdoor learning and adventure.
Desirable
- Forest School Level 2 or Level 3 qualification.
- Bushcraft or outdoor leadership qualifications.
- Experience delivering woodland activities including fire lighting, shelter building, campfire cooking, green woodworking, or nature-based education.
- National Governing Body (NGB) or outdoor leadership qualifications.
- Experience working with children aged 5–14.
- Experience managing groups in outdoor environments.
- Full UK driving licence (where applicable).
