Full job description

Gallus Pedals is looking for a reliable, practical and experienced freelance bike mechanic to help keep our tour bikes safe, well-maintained and ready for guests.

We run story-led bike, e-bike, walking, food and whisky tours across Glasgow. Our bikes are a big part of our identity: we started with refurbished ex-Post Office bikes, named after remarkable Glaswegian women, and we still care deeply about giving guests a safe, smooth and memorable experience from the moment they arrive.

This is a small but important freelance role, likely around 4 hours per week, with some flexibility depending on bookings, seasonality and maintenance needs.

We are looking for someone mobile, organised and trustworthy who can take ownership of regular bike checks, minor repairs, maintenance records and quick fixes when needed.

What you’ll be doing

You will help with:

Regular safety checks across the Gallus Pedals bike fleet
Basic servicing and preventative maintenance
Brake checks and adjustments
Gear checks and adjustments
Tyre, tube and puncture repairs
Chain checks, lubrication and replacement where needed
Saddle, basket, stand and handlebar checks
Identifying issues before they become problems
Keeping a clear maintenance record for each bike
Advising when parts need replaced
Supporting occasional urgent fixes before or after tours
Helping keep the bikes clean, safe and guest-ready

For the right person, there may also be occasional tour support work, such as helping prepare bikes before larger group bookings.

What we’re looking for

You should be:

An experienced bike mechanic, either professionally or through strong practical experience
Mobile and able to travel to our Glasgow base when needed
Able to bring and use your own tools
Reliable, organised and good at keeping records
Comfortable working independently
Safety-conscious and detail-focused
Practical, calm and good at solving problems
Available for roughly 4 hours per week, with some flexibility
Able to respond reasonably quickly if an urgent bike issue comes up

You do not need to be a formal tour guide, but you do need to understand that our bikes are part of the guest experience. A well-maintained bike helps guests feel safe, relaxed and looked after.

Helpful experience

Experience with any of the following would be useful:

City bikes, hybrid bikes or utility bikes
E-bikes
Fleet maintenance
Bike rental, bike shops or cycling organisations
Mobile bicycle repair
Working with small businesses or tourism operators

Experience with e-bikes would be a bonus, but reliability and practical bike maintenance skills are the main things.

Working pattern

This is a freelance, part-time role, expected to be around 4 hours per week.

The exact schedule can be agreed, but we are looking for someone with good availability during the main tour season and the ability to carry out regular checks so the fleet stays safe and ready.

There may be more work during busier periods or ahead of larger private group bookings.
