As a Third Officer, you'll support the Deck Department in maintaining the highest standards of safety, navigation and operational excellence. Working alongside the Master, Chief Officer and Second Officer, you'll gain valuable leadership experience while helping to deliver reliable ferry services that keep communities, businesses and visitors connected.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Third Officer looking to develop their career within a supportive, safety-focused and customer-centred maritime environment.

What you'll do

As Third Officer, you'll be responsible for maintaining a safe navigational watch and supporting the day-to-day operation of the vessel. Employed as a Bridge Watchkeeping Officer, and at the Master's discretion, you may be placed in sole charge of the navigational watch whilst at sea.

Your key responsibilities will include:

Maintaining a safe navigational watch as Officer of the Watch.
Assisting with passage planning and pilotage planning activities.
Assisting with the maintenance of navigational charts and nautical publications, including electronic charts and publications, ensuring all corrections are completed in a timely manner.
Assisting with the testing of GMDSS and other onboard radio equipment.
Supporting planned maintenance routines across the vessel.
Undertaking or assisting with Loading Officer duties during vehicle deck embarkation, disembarkation and cargo operations, ensuring the vessel is loaded safely, correctly and in accordance with stability requirements.
Participating in emergency drills, exercises and emergency response duties in accordance with the Muster List and the instructions of the Master or Chief Officer.
Acting as Officer in Charge or Supervising Officer during mooring operations as required.
Assisting the Chief Officer with the maintenance of lifesaving appliances and firefighting equipment.
Maintaining medical locker stocks, including first aid kits and defibrillator supplies.
Conducting regular sample testing of the vessel's fresh water tanks.
Carrying out daily vessel computer network housekeeping routines.
Maintaining onboard stationery stock levels.
Supporting the Chief Officer and Second Officer while developing management and leadership skills in preparation for future career progression.
Undertaking any other duties reasonably required by the Master or Chief Officer.

What we're looking for

To be considered for this role, you'll need the following qualifications and certification:

Essential

STCW II/1 Officer of the Watch (Unlimited) Certificate of Competency
Valid ENG1 Medical Certificate with no limitations
Security Awareness Certificate
GMDSS General Operator's Certificate (GOC)
STCW Basic Safety Training, including:

Personal Survival Techniques
Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities
Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting
Elementary First Aid

Medical First Aid
Advanced Fire Fighting
Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats
Relevant certification valid for a minimum of 12 months
Basic LNG Training (preferred, although applications without LNG Training will be considered)

Desirable

Recent Ro-Pax or Passenger vessel experience as an Officer of the Watch
Crisis Management and Human Behaviour certification
