Job Summary
We are looking for a passionate, nurturing and highly motivated Baby Room Lead to join us as we prepare to open our brand-new nursery in Kirkstall, Leeds. This is a very special opportunity for someone who is excited by the challenge of helping to build something new from the very beginning, shaping the culture, standards and daily practice of our Baby Room as part of a brand-new team.
As our Baby Room Lead, you will take responsibility for creating a calm, loving and unique space where our youngest children feel safe, secure and deeply cared for. You will lead with warmth, confidence and high expectations, ensuring that exceptional care, strong relationships and meaningful early learning experiences are embedded from day one.
We are looking for someone who understands just how important the earliest years are, and who can create a baby room that feels homely, nurturing and full of wonder. You will role-model outstanding practice, support and inspire your team, and work closely with families to ensure every baby’s individual needs, routines and development are understood and celebrated.
This role is ideal for someone who is ready to lead with passion, creativity and purpose; someone who wants to help shape a beautiful new nursery environment, build strong foundations as part of a new team, and create a Baby Room where children, families and educators all feel valued, supported and able to thrive.
As our Baby Room Lead, you will:
- Lead the daily running of our Baby Room, creating a calm, nurturing, safe and inspiring environment where our youngest children can feel secure, loved and ready to explore.
- Champion warm, responsive care, ensuring every baby builds a strong attachment with their Key Person and experiences consistent, emotionally secure relationships.
- Bring our Beehive Curriculum to life through sensory-rich, child-led experiences, using natural materials, open-ended provocations and gentle invitations to explore. Your curriculum highlights play as learning and describes provocations as carefully placed invitations that spark curiosity.
- Support babies’ early communication, physical development, sensory discovery, confidence and independence through meaningful everyday moments, routines, play and interactions.
- Lead, mentor and inspire your team, role-modelling outstanding interactions, professionalism, safeguarding and high-quality practice, as reflected in the Room Lead expectations.
- Ensure routines such as feeding, sleep, nappy care and transitions are respectful, unhurried and child-centred, supporting each baby’s wellbeing, development and sense of belonging.
- Oversee Key Person practice and ensure each child’s Discovery Diary, observations and next steps are thoughtful, accurate and meaningful.
- Create beautiful, purposeful learning spaces where the environment acts as the “third teacher”, with sensory play, natural treasures, loose parts and cosy spaces that invite curiosity and connection.
- Build trusting, professional partnerships with families, keeping parents and carers informed, welcomed and involved in their baby’s learning journey.
- Work closely with the management team and fellow Room Leads to maintain high standards, support smooth transitions and ensure a consistent nursery journey across Babies, Toddlers and Preschool.
- Keep safeguarding, health, safety and wellbeing at the heart of every decision, ensuring policies, procedures and risk assessments are embedded in daily practice.
- Help nurture a positive, reflective and supportive Hive culture where children, families and educators all feel valued, respected and able to thrive.
Applicants must have:
- A minimum Level 3 Early Years qualification (Level 6/EYT/EYTS welcomed).
- At least 3 years' experience working within an early years nursery setting.
- The right to work in the UK and be willing to undergo an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references before employment.
