Doncaster Sheffield Airport is in the process of reopening, and we are excited to be looking for an IT Operations & Infrastructure Manager who will play a central role in the airport’s digital foundations. This is a unique opportunity to build and run a greenfield ICT estate from the ground up, ensuring the infrastructure is resilient, secure, and ready to support both freight and passenger operations as they go live.
About the Role
As IT Operations & Infrastructure Manager at Doncaster Sheffield Airport, you will take day-to-day ownership of the network and infrastructure estate, working closely with the Head of ICT, managed service partners, and third-party suppliers. You will be the primary technical interface with CONNECTUS Communications Ltd, DSA’s mandated network infrastructure partner, overseeing NOC performance, infrastructure change management, and capacity planning across a FortiNet-secured, seven-segment VLAN architecture.
You will ensure infrastructure readiness across the programme’s phased go-live milestones - freight operations and passenger operations - and act as technical deputy to the Head of ICT. You will also line-manage the Junior IT Support, coordinate supplier performance across the MSP and operational systems vendors, and contribute to procurement and governance workstreams including the Change Advisory Board.
You will be responsible for authoring and maintaining DSA’s IT operational policies and procedures — including change management, incident response, asset management, acceptable use, and patching standards — ensuring they remain current, compliant, and fit for a CAA-regulated environment. You will also hold direct accountability for the IT equipment estate, covering procurement, deployment, lifecycle management, and disposal of all end-user devices, managed via Microsoft Intune MDM and tracked through the ITSM asset register.
Essential requirements include:
-
Strong networking and infrastructure expertise (Cisco, SD-WAN, Wi-Fi, next-generation firewalls — FortiNet desirable)
- Experience with network segmentation, security architecture, and zero-trust design principles
- Vendor management and technical negotiation in a multi-supplier environment
- Incident management, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis capability
- Working knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks (NCSC CAF, Cyber Essentials Plus, ISO 27001 awareness)
- Experience coordinating infrastructure change in regulated or safety-critical environments
- Ability to produce technical documentation suitable for governance and procurement audiences
Desirable:
-
Aviation or transport sector experience
- Familiarity with OT/IT integration and operational technology environments
- Relevant certifications (CCNP, CCNA, FortiNet NSE, Microsoft Azure/Intune)
The successful Candidate:
You will be an experienced infrastructure and networking professional with a proven track record in complex, multi-supplier environments, ideally within a regulated sector such as aviation, utilities, transport, or critical national infrastructure.
You will bring strong hands-on expertise in network architecture, security tooling, and infrastructure lifecycle management alongside the stakeholder and vendor management skills to operate credibly across technical and commercial boundaries.
Please ensure you view the job summary and progression criteria as you will need to demonstrate in your application form how you meet the required criteria.
Along with the opportunity to be part of a great team dedicated to ensuring DSA thrives, we can offer you:
-
Leading defined benefit pension scheme with generous employer contributions
- 29 days annual leave (rising to 34 after 5 years) plus 8 bank holidays
- Eligibility for Shared Cost AVCs
- Relocation package up to £8.5K
- Broad range of family friendly workplace policies
- Health Cash Plan
- Cycle to work and home technology salary sacrifice schemes
- Wide range of employee discounts and wellbeing benefits
- Financial wellbeing support including affordable loans
- Free access to Occupational Health, counselling and physiotherapy
