An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Events Team to appoint to the interesting new role of Creative Engagement Assistant.

This is an interesting and varied role, as you will be working with the events team to support the delivery of all the cultural and civic events, which currently includes the annual:

Rotherham Show
UPLIFT Festival
Roots: Rotherham Street Carnival
Bonfire Night
Christmas Lights Switch-on.

As the Creative Engagement Assistant working within the events team, your main duties will be:

Planning, promoting and delivering a wide range of engaging and inclusive creative workshop programmes in both Council and community settings, including ensuring that appropriate safeguarding, health and safety and data management processes are upheld while delivering these programmes.
Leading creative workshops and engagement sessions in a wide variety of settings including schools, community centres, outdoor event locations, businesses and specialist provision.
Working collaboratively with internal and external partners to support the planning and delivery of large-scale events, festivals and exhibitions across the borough.
Working with the wider Service and Corporate Communications team to support the marketing and promotions of the events, including creating and uploading content to social media, updating websites, writing blog posts, and being an advocate for the events in approved media interviews.
Working with a wide range of external and internal partners to help them plan and deliver activities
Supporting the evaluation of the events programme, including through capturing, inputting and analysing evaluation data.
Working with the Creative Events Producer to help support a network of freelance artists, facilitators and volunteers to undertake engagement activities.

The successful candidate will bring a strong foundation of experience working collaboratively with a wide range of partners, demonstrating the ability to build and maintain meaningful relationships with community groups and organisations. They will have practical experience supporting the planning and delivery of creative, cultural, or community-focused events and festivals, alongside contributing to engaging workshops and opportunities for children, young people, families, and wider communities.

With an awareness of safeguarding, data protection, and health and safety requirements, they will approach delivery with care and responsibility. Strong organisational, timekeeping, and communication skills will enable them to manage multiple priorities effectively, supported by confidence in using tools such as Outlook and Teams.

In this role, the candidate will benefit from opportunities to further develop their skills across event delivery, partnership working, and community engagement, while also gaining exposure to communications and marketing practices such as social media content creation and copywriting. There will also be scope to build leadership experience through supporting or supervising volunteers and freelance facilitators, making this a well-rounded role for someone looking to grow within the creative and community sector.

Essential skills and experience

Knowledge and experience of working effectively with a wide range of partners, including developing and maintaining positive relationships with community groups and organisations.
Knowledge and experience of supporting the planning and delivering of creative, cultural or community events and festivals.
Knowledge and experience of supporting the planning and delivery of creative workshops and opportunities for children, young people, and/or families and communities, including a basic understanding of the relevant safeguarding, data protection and health and safety procedures.
Strong timekeeping, organisational, and communication skills, including experience using Outlook and Teams (or other equivalent software packages).

Desirable skills and experience

Some communications and marketing experience, including experience of creating and posting appropriate organisational content to social media and/or of copy writing
Experience of supervising or supporting volunteers or freelance facilitators.

This post is eligible for hybrid working but will be based at Rotherham Civic Theatre with events and festivals taking place across the borough.
