Casual Youth Support Worker / Alternative Provision Mentor
Future AP is part of a city-wide Alternative Provision scheme. We support KS3 students who are unable to access full-time mainstream education by providing educational placements tailored to their individual needs.
We are seeking enthusiastic individuals to join our team on a casual basis, working as and when required to support young people with additional needs. There is potential for this role to develop into more regular work for the right candidate.
As part of this role, you will be expected to deliver engaging activities and provide positive support to young people with a range of social, emotional and behavioural needs. You will demonstrate a professional understanding of child development and be committed to helping each learner achieve their potential.
Our provision offers a varied, activity-based programme alongside support with Maths and English. We place a strong emphasis on sport and physical activity, while also incorporating cooking, social activities, games, and opportunities to develop life skills and confidence.

Placements currently operate on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays during term time only.
Provisional Activities:
The ideal candidate will be able to support and motivate young people's engagement with the following activities, as well as bringing new skills and ideas to further develop our activities.
- Sports (i.e. Football/Boxing)
- Functional Skills (Maths/English)
- Cooking
Role
- Build positive, non-judgemental relationships with each young person.
- Leading group activities, including sports.
- Motivating students to try different activities and engage in activities.
- Supporting students with one-to-one activities.
- Responding to challenging and disruptive behaviour.
- Contributing your ideas to develop the provisions curriculum, identifying key subjects, topics, activities, and lessons that can engage our students.
- Reflecting with professionals including staff team/parents/schools, to understand each young person as an individual.
- Helping young people to re-engage back into mainstream education.
- Helping young people understand their social development, including teaching topics, around mental health, sexual health, drugs & alcohol.
- Delivering positive lessons which encourage young people to work together, share their voice and build their confidence.

Suitable Experience:
- Experience supporting disengaged pupils
- Experience supporting young people with challenging behaviour
- Experience participating/coaching sports
- Experience supporting individuals ADHD & ASD
- Professional experience supporting young people in education or informal setting
- Qualified Youth Worker (Level 3-6)
- Qualified Teacher Status or Equivalent
Job Types: Part-time/Casual
Pay: £12.71 per hour
