The role
We are looking for a senior, experienced Tree Surgery Grounds Operative / Chainsaw Operator to join our team.
This is not an entry-level role. You will be expected to take responsibility on site, lead a small grounds team, and work closely with the arborist or team leader to ensure jobs run safely and efficiently.
Key responsibilities
- Carry out all aspects of ground-based tree work
- Support tree felling, dismantling and woodland management
- Operate chainsaws and arboricultural machinery safely and competently
- Lead and organise a grounds team on site
- Ensure work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard
- Maintain compliance with site safety regulations
- Complete risk assessments, equipment checks and defect reporting
- Work closely with climbers and team leaders to deliver smooth operations
Requirements (essential)
- Full UK driving licence with towing experience
- Proven, hands-on experience within the tree surgery industry
- Ability to confidently lead and manage a grounds team
- Strong attention to detail and high standards of workmanship
- Good working knowledge of: BS3998:2010 Working at Height Regulations (2020)
- NPTC (or equivalent): CS30 – Chainsaw maintenance & cross-cutting
- NPTC (or equivalent): CS31 – Felling small trees
- NPTC (or equivalent): CS38 – Tree climbing & aerial rescue (training can be provided for the right candidate)
Desirable skills
- Lantra MEWP (or equivalent)
- Experience with excavator-mounted tree shears / forestry attachments
