Job Summary
Worthing Theatres and Museum are recruiting a Casual Film Technician to join the Film team.
This is a casual post with ad hoc hours as and when required by the Charity, including evenings and weekends.
When on shift ensure high standards of on-screen presentation, set up and close down film projector, undertake basic fault finding and complete any admin as required.
The Film Technician is responsible for ensuring high standards of on-screen presentation when on shift. They are also responsible for overseeing film projection on shift and undertaking routine problem solving and maintenance, compliance with health, safety, and film licensing regulations.
As part of the film team you will also be expected to help create and deliver special events themed around the programme and work with the team to develop the film offering, and assist with film administration.
Responsibilities
Maintenance and Repair
- Set up and shut down projector while on shift, ensuring that films run to schedule and screening quality is monitored throughout the shift.
- Undertake basic fault finding on projection equipment and related systems; respond to technical issues during screenings and take corrective action or escalate as needed.
- Receive and ingest films, trailers, and other content; ensure files arrive in correct format and condition.
- Maintain screen alignment, picture & sound quality for screenings; perform regular checks.
- Liaise with distributors / content providers to chase missing trailers, content, or resolve technical content issues.
- Assist the Duty Manager with emergency evacuation duties.
- Complete administrative work as set by the film manager.
General
- Undertake all duties in accordance with WTM policies, in particular those relating to Customer Care and Equal Opportunities.
- Undertake such other duties as may reasonably be allocated to the postholder, which may involve providing assistance in any section of the department as may be required from time to time.
- Undertake any duties regarding health, safety and welfare at work, civil contingencies and business continuity which may reasonably be allocated to the postholder as a result of legislation, codes of practice or WTM policies.
- Promote the service and WTM positively at all times.
Essential Experience and Knowledge
- A basic understanding of cinema audio/visual technology (but full training given on specific technical aspects).
- Good problem-solving skills
- Good numeracy and literacy skills and an effective communicator.
- Proven experience of working to a schedule.
- Good IT skills and comfortable using various systems.
- Able to complete shifts of 4 or more hours, Monday-Sunday, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
- Self-motivated and able to work on own initiative.
- An understanding of equalities and how to apply this in the workplace thinking about both customers and colleagues.
Desirable Knowledge, Experience and Skills
- Experience of working in a cinema environment.
- A good understanding of cinema audio/visual technology (but full training given on specific technical aspects).
