Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Apprentice Engineering Technician to join our dynamic engineering team. In this paid role, you will gain hands-on experience and work towards becoming a trade qualified Combustion Engineer (Industrial Steam Boilers) supporting various engineering projects across the UK, assisting with system design, installation, commissioning and maintenance tasks. This position offers a unique opportunity to develop foundational skills in multi skilled engineering applications while working alongside experienced professionals. The ideal candidate is eager to learn, possesses strong technical aptitude, and demonstrates enthusiasm for innovation and problem-solving.
Duties
- Contribute by assisting with assembly, component testing, and troubleshooting mechanical, gas and electrical systems.
- Perform root cause analysis on system issues, helping identify underlying problems through fault finding and testing procedures.
- Support maintenance activities by documenting system performance, conducting inspections, and assisting with repairs or upgrades.
- Participate in training for commercial gas qualifications such as - COCN1 (limited scope) - Core Commercial Gas Safety, CPA1 - Combustion Performance Analysis, CIGA1/CDGA1 (Commercial Appliances) and pipework certification ICPN1
Skills
- Basic understanding of electrical engineering principles and mechanical knowledge relevant to installation and system design.
- Strong analytical skills for root cause analysis, fault finding systems, and troubleshooting issues effectively.
- Excellent math skills supporting system calculations and design validation.
- Understanding of systems engineering concepts including integration of hardware/software components.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment while demonstrating initiative in problem-solving tasks.
This paid apprenticeship position is designed to provide comprehensive training and key experience towards becoming a Combustion Engineer providing nationwide coverage for major industrial infrastructure across the UK and Ireland.
