Full job description

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Head Shipper / Route Planner to join our busy and fast-paced Skip and Waste Management business based in Hailsham, East Sussex.

Monday to Friday: 7:30am – 5:30pm

About the Role

The successful candidate will play a key role in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the skip business, ensuring the smooth and efficient running of transport scheduling, customer service, and office operations. This is a hands-on position requiring excellent organisational skills, strong industry knowledge, and the ability to manage a busy workload in a time-sensitive environment.

Key Responsibilities

Managing and coordinating the daily transport operations for skip movements and waste collections
Scheduling vehicles and drivers to ensure efficient and timely service delivery
Handling customer enquiries, bookings, and operational requests
Overseeing the smooth running of the office and daily business activities
Monitoring and managing transport logistics to maximise fleet efficiency
Liaising with drivers, customers, suppliers, and site personnel
Ensuring all paperwork, records, and operational systems are maintained accurately
Managing and prioritising workloads in a busy operational environment
Assisting with compliance and operational procedures within the waste industry
Supporting management with operational planning and service improvements

Candidate Requirements

Previous experience within the Waste, Recycling, Skip Hire, or Transport industry is essential
Strong understanding of skip operations and transport logistics
Excellent organisational and communication skills
Ability to work under pressure in a fast-moving environment
Competent with computer systems and office software
Experience using transport planning or waste management systems would be advantageous
Professional and confident manner with customers and staff
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability
Ability to lead and support office operations effectively
