Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) Teaching Assistant to support children with special educational needs within our educational setting. The successful candidate will work closely with pupils who have social, emotional, and behavioural challenges, including those with autism and other disabilities. Duties
- Assist teachers in delivering personalised learning programmes for pupils with SEMH needs.
- Support children with autism and other disabilities in their daily activities, both academically and socially.
- Implement behaviour management strategies to promote positive behaviour and emotional well-being.
- Provide one-to-one or small group support to help children access the curriculum effectively.
- Aid in the organisation of classroom activities, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment.
- Support with toddler care when required, fostering early developmental skills.
- Communicate effectively with pupils, teachers, parents, and external professionals to ensure consistent support plans are followed.
- Monitor pupil progress and report on behavioural or learning concerns to the teaching staff.
Experience
- Prior experience working with children, particularly those with special educational needs or disabilities, is highly desirable.
- Experience working with individuals with autism or other SEMH challenges is advantageous.
- Knowledge of teaching strategies tailored for children with social, emotional, and behavioural difficulties.
- Familiarity with toddler care and early childhood development is a plus.
- Strong communication skills to effectively engage with pupils of varying abilities and backgrounds.
- Compassionate approach and patience when supporting children facing diverse challenges.
