About the role
Balfour Beatty is recruiting an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor to join our Regional Civils division on a major 8km new build highway scheme in Lincolnshire. This landmark infrastructure project includes road construction, drainage, structures and associated works, and will play a key role in improving connectivity across the region.
As Managing Quantity Surveyor, you’ll lead the commercial function on the project, working closely with the Project Manager and site team to drive strong financial performance. You’ll be responsible for commercial management, contract administration and reporting, while also mentoring and supporting Junior Surveyors. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a tangible impact on a high-profile scheme while further developing your leadership capability in a collaborative, delivery-focused environment.
What you'll be doing
Reporting to the Project Commercial Manager, you’ll lead the commercial delivery of the project, managing a team of Quantity Surveyors and taking full responsibility for project costs and income from commencement through to completion. You’ll focus on driving value for money, maintaining commercial control, and building strong relationships across the supply chain and with the client.
- Lead and manage the project commercial team, providing direction, mentoring and support
- Oversee all cost management activities including cost planning, valuations and forecasting
- Manage subcontract procurement and supply chain relationships
- Ensure contract requirements are fully understood, implemented and complied with
- Prepare accurate monthly commercial reports for senior management and the client
- Identify, manage and mitigate commercial risks while maximising opportunities
- Act as a mentor to junior surveyors, supporting their professional development and progression
- Maintain CPD and uphold professional standards as a Chartered member of RICS, ICES or CIOB
Who we're looking for
- Degree (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or similar
- Experience in highways or civil engineering projects
- Familiarity with NEC contracts
- Confident communicator who can build positive relationships with clients and colleagues
- Able to lead a team whilst also working collaboratively
