General Manager – The Queen Mary, Ocean Village, Southampton
£35,000–£38,000 + Performance Bonus
The Queen Mary has recently undergone a complete rebrand and we're looking for the right person to help take it to where we know it can be.
We're not looking for someone to simply keep the doors open. We want someone who takes pride in running a great pub, builds a strong team and genuinely enjoys creating a venue people want to come back to.
This role would suit an experienced General Manager who's happy getting stuck in, leads by example and understands that the small details make the biggest difference.
The Role
You'll be responsible for the day-to-day running of the business, making sure standards stay high, the team is motivated and customers leave having had a great experience.
You'll have the freedom to make decisions, bring new ideas to the table and help shape the future of the venue while working closely with the owners.
What You'll Be Doing
- Running the venue on a daily basis.
- Leading and developing the front-of-house team.
- Recruiting and training new staff.
- Managing rotas, labour costs and stock.
- Keeping an eye on GP and the overall performance of the business.
- Making sure service is friendly, efficient and consistent.
- Working alongside the Head Chef to ensure food standards remain high.
- Looking after licensing, health & safety and food hygiene compliance.
- Maintaining high standards throughout the pub, from the cellar to the customer toilets.
- Helping drive trade through local events, sport and community relationships.
What We're Looking For
You'll ideally have at least five years' management experience in a busy pub, bar or restaurant and be comfortable running a high-volume operation.
You'll also need to be someone who:
- Leads from the front.
- Can build and motivate a team.
- Understands labour, stock and GP.
- Stays calm when the pub is packed.
- Isn't afraid to challenge poor standards.
- Takes ownership of problems instead of waiting for somebody else to fix them.
- Has a full UK driving license.
- Lives within a reasonable business to the pub.
Most importantly, we're looking for someone who genuinely cares about doing a good job.
