PLC Controls Programmer

Location: Havant, Hampshire
Salary: £50,000+ per annum (depending on experience) + Overtime
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

About Us

We are a specialist engineering company designing and manufacturing bespoke robotic automation systems for industrial customers. Our projects include robotic palletising, depalletising, packaging, material handling and end-of-line automation solutions delivered throughout the UK and internationally.

Due to continued growth, we are looking for an experienced PLC Controls Programmer to join our engineering team.

The Role

This is a varied role combining office-based controls development with occasional travel to customer sites for machine commissioning and support.

You will be responsible for developing, testing and commissioning PLC and HMI software for bespoke automation systems, working closely with Mechanical, Electrical and Robotics Engineers to deliver complete turnkey solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Develop PLC software for bespoke automation machinery
Design and develop HMI applications
Configure industrial communication networks and fieldbus systems
Integrate PLC systems with robots, vision systems, servo drives and other industrial equipment
Carry out machine testing and Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT)
Commission machinery at customer sites
Troubleshoot electrical and software issues during commissioning
Produce and maintain software documentation
Provide technical support to customers when required
Work closely with the wider engineering team throughout each project

Essential Skills & Experience

Previous experience programming PLC-controlled industrial machinery
Strong understanding of industrial automation systems
Experience with PLC platforms such as Siemens and Allen-Bradley
HMI development experience
Knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as Profinet, Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP or EtherCAT
Ability to read electrical schematics
Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team
Right to work in the UK

Desirable

Experience commissioning bespoke automation equipment
Experience integrating industrial robots (Fanuc, KUKA)
Motion control and servo systems experience
Vision system integration experience
Experience with safety PLCs and machine safety systems
Familiarity with packaging, palletising or end-of-line automation
Full UK driving licence
Willingness to travel occasionally within the UK and overseas
