Solent Blinds & Curtains is a long-established, family-run manufacturer and installer of bespoke blinds, curtains, and soft furnishings.
We are looking for an experienced Seamstress / Soft Furnishings Machinist to join our friendly workshop team.
This is a hands-on manufacturing role for someone who takes pride in producing high-quality, accurately made bespoke products and has experience using industrial sewing machines.
At Solent Blind & Curtain Company Ltd, we have been manufacturing and installing made-to-measure blinds, curtains, and shutters for over 50 years. As a family-run business, we work with both domestic and commercial customers across a wide range of sectors, including healthcare, education, hospitality, offices, retail, residential developments, maritime and defence.
What You'll Be Doing
You will be involved in the manufacture and finishing of bespoke curtains, blinds, and soft furnishings, working from measurements, specifications, and production instructions.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Accurately cutting and preparing fabrics
- Sewing and assembling bespoke curtains, blinds, and soft furnishings
- Using industrial sewing machines and other workshop equipment
- Working with a variety of fabrics, linings, and materials
- Working accurately from measurements, specifications, and instructions
- Checking your own work to ensure consistently high quality
- Identifying and resolving manufacturing or quality issues
- Working efficiently to meet production requirements and deadlines
- Maintaining a clean, organised, and safe working area
- Working collaboratively as part of our workshop team
Every day is different, and you will help create bespoke products for customers across a wide range of domestic and commercial sectors.
Who We're Looking For:
We are looking for someone with proven professional sewing experience, ideally within curtains, blinds, soft furnishings, upholstery, or a similar manufacturing environment.
Essential:
- Proven professional sewing experience
- Experience using industrial sewing machines
- Good sewing and fabric-handling skills
- Ability to work accurately from measurements and specifications
- Good attention to detail
Desirable:
- Experience making curtains, blinds or soft furnishings
- Experience with upholstery
- Experience working in a manufacturing/production environment
- Knowledge of different fabrics, linings and finishing techniques
Relevant experience is more important to us than formal qualifications.
