Purpose:
HGV Class 1 Driver role is to safely and efficiently transport goods between depots, distribution centre's, and customer locations while ensuring compliance with all road transport regulations and company policies. The driver is responsible for operating articulated vehicles, maintaining high standards of safety, completing deliveries on time, and ensuring accurate documentation. The role supports the smooth running of the supply chain by delivering goods reliably while providing professional customer service and representing the company positively on the road.

Working Pattern:
The driver will work a rotating shift pattern of 6 days on followed by 5 days on, typically Monday to Friday with alternate weekend work (Saturday and Sunday).
Nights out in the vehicle are required, and the successful candidate must be comfortable staying overnight in the unit when necessary to complete delivery schedules.
Drivers will operate various types of trailers as part of the role. Full training will be provided for any trailer types the driver is not already familiar with.
Responsibilities:
· Safely operate HGV Class 1 (Category C+E) articulated vehicles to transport goods between depots, distribution centres, and customer locations.
· Carry out daily vehicle inspections (walk-around checks) before and after each shift to ensure the vehicle is roadworthy and report any defects promptly.
· Ensure all loads are securely loaded, balanced, and transported in accordance with safety regulations and company procedures.
· Plan and follow assigned delivery routes and schedules to ensure timely deliveries and collections.
· Comply with all UK road transport regulations, including driver hours, tachograph usage, and Working Time Directive requirements.
· Complete and maintain accurate delivery documentation, including delivery notes, proof of delivery (POD), and defect reports.
· Communicate effectively with transport planners, warehouse teams, and customers regarding delivery schedules, delays, or issues.
· Provide a professional and courteous service when interacting with customers and representing the company.
· Ensure goods are handled carefully to prevent damage during loading, transit, and unloading.
· Follow all health and safety policies, including safe loading/unloading procedures and use of appropriate PPE.
· Maintain the cleanliness and basic upkeep of the vehicle assigned.
· Report any accidents, incidents, delays, or compliance issues immediately in line with company procedures.
Experience
· Previous experience working as an HGV Class 1 (Category C+E) Driver within a logistics, transport, or distribution environment is preferred.
· Proven experience in long-distance or trunking operations, including overnight stays in the vehicle where required.
· Experience operating articulated vehicles with a range of trailer types (e.g., curtain side, box, refrigerated, or container trailers) is advantageous.
· A strong understanding of UK driver hours regulations, tachograph use, and Working Time Directive requirements.
· Experience completing delivery documentation, proof of delivery (POD), and defect reporting accurately, using Mandata an advantage but not essential
· Experience working to delivery schedules and route planning while maintaining safety and compliance.
· Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining communication with transport teams.
